You Can Do This

This week, we’re making our way through the woods as we feature a whole array of woodsy products from the Stampin’ Up! lineup. Today, we’re dreaming of winter with this diamond fold card design featuring the Thoughtful Journey designer series paper and Frosted Forest bundle.

Stampin’ Up! has released some gorgeous watercolored patterned paper packs over the last year, and I think I have loved each and every one. I thought it would be fun to use the snowy scene paper from the Thoughtful Journey paper pack and create a pop-out using Frosted Forest since the evergreens closely resembled those in the paper. So let’s see how it all comes together.

We get started with a base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. I love how this really pulls forward the purple hues in the patterned paper. Our diamond panel leaves a little of the Blackberry Bliss peeking around the edges and the mat for our panel is a piece of white glimmer cardstock to be reminiscent of twinkling snowdrifts. I used the Frosted Forest masks to create the evergreen using a combination of Blackberry Bliss, Fresh Freesia, Night of Navy, and Misty Moonlight inks and then diecut it using the coordinating Frosted Forest die. I went over the tree with Wink of Stella and added iridescent ribbon for added sparkle on the diamond panel. The sentiment from Saying Hey is stamped in black on white cardstock and then diecut using the Happy Little Things banner die. A few iridescent faceted gems finish things off nicely with an additional twinkly touch.

Isn’t this just a gorgeous scene?! Words Fail

This week we’re taking a sneak peek at the upcoming Online Exclusive by Stampin’ Up! called Changing Leaves. This bundle of products includes a stamp set, dies, and hybrid embossing folder. I love all of the detail included in the images in this set, and I’ve enjoyed thinking outside the box when designing with it. This set, although full of gorgeous fall foliage images, lends itself to all sorts of fun designs that don’t immediately make you think of fall. And today’s card is another example. So let’s get started.

I wanted a light and bright color palette for this thank-you card. I did let Mother Nature do a little of the talking with the choices in leaf color but then I worked to fill in with some fun complimentary colors. Our card begins with a base of Flirty Flamingo cardstock. The background panel is a quarter panel of Petal Pink embossed with the soon-to-release Changing Leaves embossing folder. I cut this panel down a bit to have a nice border of Flirty Flamingo all around. Our focal images are a whole smattering of stamped and diecut leaves from the soon-to-release Changing Leaves stamp set. All of the images are stamped tone-on-tone. Two of the larger leaves are stamped on Old Olive and Summer Splash with the two smaller leaves stamped on Lemon Lolly and Peach Pie. I added a few sparkly elements with the Peach Pie and Summer Splash foliage tucked in the mix. The sentiment from Simply Zinnia is stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock and diecut with the Autumn Leaves die set using the extension method. (For more on using the die extension method, check out this quick tutorial.) I tucked a faux bow of Petal Pink diagonal trim behind the sentiment panel and added a few Peach Pie shimmer gems across the card front for added sparkle.

Hey, You’ve Got This

Happy Thursday, friends. I don’t know if you guys have had crazy weather this week, but here in North Texas, we’ve had some big thunderstorms over the last week. The one we experienced on Monday has closed school for the remainder of the school year due to damage sustained to campuses and buildings across the district. I have to say that it’s the craziest wind I’ve experienced in a long time! Today’s card theme is getting through tough times. And there are certainly some folks who have had tough times this week with damage from the storms.

This week, we’ve been exploring all the ways we can use the Inspiring Snapdragons stamps and dies to make beautiful cards. Today, we’re using the dies to build a scene. And I gained color inspiration from Mother Nature herself. When you’re working with a set, especially botanical sets, do you ever look for photos of the plants to find inspiration? I love doing this when I’m looking to create art that imitates life, and that’s precisely how I put together the colors of these snapdragon blooms.

We start our card with a base of Flirty Flamingo cardstock. The background for the image panel consists of a mat of Peach Pie cardstock and a piece of Unbounded Beauty designer series paper. I slid a large strip of Peach Pie In Color glimmer paper behind the image panel for sparkle and a bit of blingy drama. The snapdragon blooms are a combination of Melon Mambo, Petunia Pop, Pretty in Pink, Basic White, Daffodil Delight, and Peach Pie and are all diecut using the Inspiring Snapdragons dies. I layered the blooms to give the illusion of a stand of snapdragons in the garden. The blades of grass are cut from Shy Shamrock cardstock and are scattered in amongst the snapdragon blooms. The sentiment panel consists of a strip of Peach Pie and a tab of white cardstock punched using the Heartfelt Hexagon punch. “Hey” from the Saying Hey stamp set is stamped tone-on-tone on the Peach Pie strip, while the “you’ve got this” from Unbounded Love is stamped in Flirty Flamingo on the white hexagon half-tab. I used Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie shiny sequins to add pops of sparkle across the card front and a large paper butterfly to really draw the eye in to the sentiment panel.
