Sketchy Fridays: Birthday Blossoms

Happy Friday! We have made it to the end of the week. And it was quite an exciting day for me. In the middle of a big work meeting today, we had a medical emergency. There’s nothing like someone crumpling in their chair to get the ol’ adrenaline pumping! Luckily, we could rouse the person and get them on their way for a medical evaluation pretty quickly. And on top of the excitement of the work day, it seems that the weather in our area is ramping up to make for an exciting evening. I hope it turns out to just be rain. I’m not sure my poor heart can handle anymore crazy adrenaline rushes today.

But on to our crafty fun for today. We are having another Sketchy Friday (even more appropriate than I originally intended!). For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we use a card sketch to design our featured card.

This week’s card is based on the Freshly Made Sketches #722 sketch. A sketch like this one is the perfect way to use busy patterns and/or scraps. In our case, we’re doing both!

We get started on today’s card with a base of white cardstock. Since we’re using a lot of pattern, we want a nice neutral backdrop. A sheet of the Easter Joy pattern paper serves as our background. For the three diagonal corner strips, we combine the floral foil from the Pleasant Patterns pack, the pink sheet from Garden Textures, and the small floral foiled sheet from the Lovely & Beautiful pack. The two competing floral patterns are broken up with the solid textured sheet from Garden Textures. I wanted all of our fun patterns to show through, so the sentiment from the Fabulous Sayings set is stamped on vellum in Versamark and then heat embossed in gold. Before adhering our sentiment, we add a few floral bunches on either side from the Easter Time ephemera pack and then adhere the sentiment over them with glue dots. We finish things off with some pearlized faceted circles.

Sketchy Fridays: BIG thanks

Happy Sketchy Fridays, everyone, and welcome to the weekend! Except it’s Saturday, but we’re all good with that, right? *snicker* My week could be summed up by lions and tigers and bears, oh my! We had a major cloud data migration at my office over last weekend and everything that could go wrong did go wrong. So we were having to make due with alternative ways of accessing e-mail and cloud files all week, and let’s just say that it’s been a mess! In and amongst all of that, we’re hosting a big educational conference in our office next week annnnnnd naturally all of my spreadsheets and files were a part of the data migration. *sigh* So it’s been a little challenging at the office this week, to say the least!

BUT here I am on Saturday bringing you the Sketchy Fridays card because it was just going to be too cute not to make & share! For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we use a card sketch to design our featured card.

This week’s card is based on the Freshly Made Sketches #706 sketch. As soon as I saw it, I already had an idea in mind and that made it an easy choice! And we’re turning it on its head, so to speak, to make it landscape. Today’s design features the new Online Exclusives Beautiful Pumpkins bundle.

We get started with a neutral base of white cardstock. Our front panel backdrop is a sheet of the gold foiled script paper from the Nature’s Sweetness paper pack. The focal panel is a combination of two sheets of the Gathering Together paper – the Cajun Craze small leaf pattern and the gold foiled fall foliage pattern. It’s mounted to the card front with dimensionals. The sentiment from the *new* 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar stamp set is heat embossed in black at the top of the panel. I wanted the pumpkins to have more texture and interest than what the stamps alone would provide, so I selected several of the woodgrain patterns from the Country Woods paper pack and used the detail stamp from the Beautiful Pumpkins set and a coordinating, but light, color on top of each woodgrain and then used the coordinating dies to cut out each one. The pumpkin stems are also cut from one of the darker woodgrain patterns from the Country Woods paper pack. I tried several different colors for the leaves and vines before settling on the Old Olive sheet from the Season of Elegance paper pack. We give the pumpkins lots of depth of field by adhering them with varying heights of dimensionals. And we finish things off with some gold low profile dots.

Sketchy Fridays: Peace, Love, & Joy!

Happy Sketchy Fridays, everyone, and welcome to the weekend! Around here, we’ve survived our first week of school and now we’re sailing into the weekend ready for the R&R for sure. I’m super stoked because I just got my box of pre-order goodies for the new Holiday Mini catalog. Anyone know what I plan to be doing this weekend? *grin*

We’ve taken a little break from Sketchy Fridays for the last little bit, but I thought it would be fun to get back to it. Because who doesn’t love being able to push the easy button on getting a card started?! *wink* For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we use a card sketch to design our featured card.

This week’s card is based on our Luv 2 Stamp Group’s monthly sketch challenge using the Atlantic Hearts Sketch #640. Today’s design features the new Peaceful Garden suite that will release in Holiday Mini catalog in September.

We get started with a base of Cloud Cover cardstock. The background panel is a nice neutral pattern from the Peaceful Garden paper pack. The focal panel backdrop is a floral pattern and cross-hatch sheet from the pack. The sentiment from Peace on Earth is stamped in Misty Moonlight on white cardstock and then cut to a simple banner. The sentiment panel is adhered over a bow of Misty Moonlight & silver edged ribbon with dimensionals. I finished things off with some Hues of Blue flowers. Super simple and super elegant!

We’ll be wrapping up our Peaceful Garden card series tomorrow with a fun fold. I hope you’ll drop in!

Sketchy Fridays: Thinking of You

Happy Sketchy Fridays on a Saturday! It was a long work day yesterday and I didn’t have any giddyup left. This week, we’re putting our sentiments center stage in our designs.

For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we use a card sketch to design our featured card.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #691 from the Instagram Freshly Made Sketches crew. Today’s design features the new Sentimental Framing stamp set and Beautiful Butterflies die bundle.

We get started with a base of Strawberry Slush cardstock. The background panel of Pool Party is machine embossed with the Beautiful Butterflies embossing folder. I mounted it with the debossed side up because I really liked how this made the floral pattern of the focal strip stand out. Our focal section starts with a strip of the Florals in Bloom patterned paper that is matted with a strip of the yellow Beautiful Bokeh paper. The sentiment from Sentimental Journey takes center stage. It’s stamped in Secret Sea on white cardstock that’s been cut using the Spotlight on Nature dies. The sentiment panel is mounted on dimensionals over a twist of the iridescent striped ribbon. I added a small butterfly cut from pastel ombré glimmer paper and Secret Sea cardstock using the Beautiful Butterfly dies. It’s mounted just above the sentiment on dimensionals to draw the eye in. A few In Color flat pearls on either side of the sentiment panel finish things off.

Sketchy Fridays: Smile!

This week, we’re getting some sneaky peeks at some of the brand new product that will be launching next week. And today we’re making another trip to the garden as we combine some new products with a sketch for Sketchy Fridays.

For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we’re using a card sketch to design our featured card. Right now, we’re working through a full series of designs using the card sketches found in current Stampin’ Up! catalogs.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #3 from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Today’s design features the Florals in Bloom suite that will release next week. This week, I’m staying pretty true to the sketch. I simply flipped the side where the focal panel is affixed.

We get started with a base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. I used the Pattern of Friendship die on the front panel to add a little texture in the background. Our background panels are a combination of Florals in Bloom and Petunia Pop glimmer paper, and these are all adhered directly to the card front. I tied a piece of Fresh Freesia velvet ribbon around the card front before placing the focal panel. The focal panel base is a white circle cut using the Spotlight on Nature dies. Using the Pretty Florals dies, I cut some flowers from the Florals in Bloom paper and then affixed them to the circle using a combination of dimensionals and glue dots. The sentiment panel is cut from vellum using the Something Fancy dies. The sentiment from Sweet Blooms is stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder before being adhered to the focal panel with glue dots. We finish things off with two tone sparkle gems across the card front.

Sketchy Fridays: You Can!

As I mentioned in my earlier post today, my week kind-of got away from me. So we’re having our Sketchy Fridays post today instead. This week, we’re working with a nature theme and with a dreary, rainy day here in North Texas, I’m finding myself leaning into a water theme for our next card design.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #7 from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Today’s design features the Otterly Adorable suite from one of the latest Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives releases.

I just love the Otterly Adorable suite and was actually just mentioning to my husband how I hadn’t used it much. So as I was looking for a sketch, I had this set on my mind. One of the things we’ve talked about throughout our Sketchy Fridays series is that sometimes your final design follows a sketch to a tee, while other times the sketch was just your jumping off point. And I think for today’s card, my selected sketch from the SU! Annual Catalog was more of an inspiration for the placement of the card elements I had in mind. The beautiful thing about crafting is that there are NO rules!

We get started on this card with a base of Pretty Peacock cardstock. I chose the fish pattern from the Otterly Adorable paper pack as the focal panel backdrop and cut it out using the largest Textured Notes die. For the focal image, I chose the baby otter swimming with its parents because it seemed to work perfectly for the chosen sentiment of “you can do this.” I cut out the otters using the Spotlight on Nature dies. I wanted the focal image to stand out against the backdrop, so I matted it with some Pretty Peacock glimmer paper cut out with a slightly larger circle from the Spotlight on Nature die set. To add a bit more color and visual interest around the otters, I cut the smaller fish from Flirty Flamingo cardstock using the Otterly Amazing dies and then used my glue pen to adhere them. The otters are adhered to the sparkly mat with dimensionals and then adhered directly to the fishy backdrop. The sentiment from Saying Hey (currently on the Last Chance list!) is stamped in Pretty Peacock on a panel of the water paper from the Otterly Amazing paper pack that has been diecut using the Something Fancy banner die. I adhered this over a twist of some gold thread with two layers of dimensionals to be sure the sentiment really stands out. The full focal panel is adhered to the card base with dimensionals and we finish things off with a few Lost Lagoon faceted gems and riverside irregular pearls.

Sketchy Fridays: Sympathy Garden

We’ve made it through another week, and I don’t know about you but this one went by quickly with Ash Wednesday in the middle. The start of Lent always means a lot more rehearsal time for me. Such is the life of a singer! Despite some crazy weather at the beginning of the week, we’re enjoying more springlike weather here in North Texas.

But the real business you’ve all come for is Sketchy Fridays, so we’ll get right to it! For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we’re using a card sketch to design our featured card. Right now, we’re working through a full series of designs using the card sketches found in current Stampin’ Up! catalogs.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #16 from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Today’s design features the Lovely Garden paper and decorative masks, along with the Textured Notes dies, all from the new Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives release.

I decided to try a different technique with the decorative masks after seeing several other demos use it. The masks for the Thankful Garden stamp set are made, not only to use with the stamped images, but also can stand alone to make lovely watercoloresque images.

Our card starts with a base of Balmy Blue cardstock with a background panel of the Lovely Garden designer series paper. I decided to reiterate the floral images on the focal panel, so I used the masks and 3 shades of purpley-pink (Bubble Bath, Fresh Freesia, and Petunia Pop) to create the flowers. I cut them out with my paper snips. I created the focal panel by first using the Textured Notes dies to cut a piece of vellum (because I wanted the lovely background pattern to show through) and then the piece of black and white polka dot from the Lovely Garden pack. I tied some Fresh Freesia velvet ribbon around the background panel before adhering and then adhered the focal panel pieces over it. I layered the flowers with dimensionals to give some depth. I stamped the sentiment in Fresh Freesia on white using the Mixed Labels stamps and cut it out with the Something Fancy hexagon die. The sentiment mat is cut from Petunia Pop glimmer paper using the Mixed Labels dies. I put a twist of gold thread in between the two sentiment layers for a little added sparkle before adding some of the starburst sequins.

Today’s sketch inspired a few changes here and there to the suggested layout. Remember, a sketch should never tie you down but just make the process of getting started and finishing a lot easier. When all is said and done, I really like the softer look you can achieve by using the decorative masks by themselves like I did here, but I’m probably much more likely to use them in conjunction with the stamped images because I really like the definition and detail. But isn’t it fun to try new things?!

Sketchy Fridays: Family You Choose

Happy Friday, everyone. It was a very busy but productive week around here. And the weekend is shaping up to be pretty busy too with the kiddo’s various activities. But we’re excited for some nice weather in store for tomorrow before the rainy spring(ish) season kicks in here in North Texas.

But let’s go down to the real business – Sketchy Fridays! For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we’re using a card sketch to design our featured card. Right now, we’re working through a full series of designs using the card sketches found in current Stampin’ Up! catalogs.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #11 from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Today, we’re pairing up the Everyday Skies patterned paper with the new Online Exclusive stamp set called Pattern of Friendship (that releases next week!).

I just love this sentiment from the new Pattern of Friendship stamp set. It truly resonates with me because we certainly couldn’t have made it through the difficulties we faced in 2024 without our circle of friends who stepped in and helped our family!

This card gets started with a base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. I used Fresh Freesia as the background for our focal panel which is made up of scraps of the reverse side patterns of the Everyday Skies papers. I stamped the sentiment from Pattern of Friendship in Blackberry Bliss on a striped sheet of Everyday Skies and adhered it on a strip with a swallow pattern. Blackberry Bliss transparent dots give us some pops of interest to draw our eye to the center sentiment. This is a very clean & simple design that literally came together in 5 minutes (once I picked my papers, that is).

We’ll be closing out our design series using Everyday Skies tomorrow. And we’ll be using the patterns on the backsides to create another quick, clean & simple card. I hope you’ll pop in.

Sketchy Fridays: You Are Loved

TGIF, everyone, and happy Valentine’s Day! Do you have special plans for the evening? We enjoyed a nice meal and exchanged a few things to mark the day. We don’t ordinarily celebrate the day in the traditional sense but don’t let the day go by without marking it in some way.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #22 from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Today, we’re pairing up several embossing folders and a recent retired set called Softly Said to create this lovely Valentine design.

We get started with a base of Pretty Pink cardstock. Our Real Red background panel is machine embossed with the Dotted Circles embossing folder and then wrapped with the Real Red & White baker’s twine before being adhered to the background panel with dimensionals. I ran a sheet of Flirty Flamingo through the Plaster Painting embossing folder and a sheet of Melon Mambo through the Painted Texture embossing folder before cutting a heart from each using the Friends for Life dies. The hearts are adhered on varying levels of dimensionals to our embossed background panel. The sentiment from Softly Said is stamped in Cherry Cobbler on vellum and then diecut with the Nested Essentials dies. I adhered the sentiment panel over the hearts with glue dots and then added iridescent discs and heart sequins to finish things off with some shimmery sparkle.

Adding several different textures to a card design gives lots of visual interest and helps your elements stand out against a busier background. We’ll finish off our texture & sentiment design series tomorrow with a fun fold. I hope you’ll join me!

Sketchy Fridays: I Love You

Here we are again – back to Friday! What do you have on the weekend agenda? I’m hoping to finish everything from last weekend’s to-do list myself. We got about halfway through our storage unit transfer. One wouldn’t think it would take all that long to move junk across town, but even with 2 people and 2 carts, each trip was almost an hour! The plan is to finish up this weekend. Now whether that leaves me time to get to all of the other things on my to-do list…well, that remains to be seen! Haha!

But how about we get to our task at hand – Sketchy Fridays! For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we’re using a card sketch to design our featured card. Right now, we’re working through a full series of designs using the card sketches found in current Stampin’ Up! catalogs.

This week’s card is based on a card sketch I drew up of a card from the Stampin’ Up! Sale-a-Bration Catalog. Today, we’re pairing up the Season of Elegance and Marbled Elegance papers with several die sets to create this lovely Valentine design.

We get started with a base of Real Red cardstock. Today’s card is a peek-through fun fold design, where we’re removing 1 1/4-inches from the card front to create a small peek-through strip to the inside card panel. Our front flap is covered with a sheet of the red Season of Elegance foiled paper. The inside message panel is simply a sheet of white paper. The peek-through section is a strip of the Marbled Elegance paper, which is covered with a strip of Cherry Cobbler & gold ribbon that is tied in a bow in the center. Our front focal panel base is piece of foiled paper from the Nature’s Sweetness paper pack that is diecut with the Spotlight on Nature dies. It’s adhered to the front panel with dimensionals. Our hearts are cut from a piece red floral patterned paper from the Regal Winter pack and is diecut with the Hot Air Balloon dies. They’re adhered to the panel with dimensionals. The sentiment from Saying Hey is stamped on white cardstock and diecut with the Nested Essentials banner die using the extension method. I used an extra layer of dimensionals behind the sentiment to ensure that it stood proud over the hearts. Some gold thread and drusy embellishments finish things off with a touch of sparkle.
