Plaid Tidings

Welcome to hump day. Midweek. Middle of the road. It always seems like the weeks go more quickly as we get into December. Is it just me?

This week we’re whipping up some super quick Christmas cards. And today I’m still hanging out with the Christmas Tags & More pack and getting a closer look at the and more part, in particular, as the tags take center stage.

Today’s card gets started with a base of Shaded Spruce cardstock. The Christmas plaid paper from the Christmas Tags & More pack serves as our festive backdrop for the main attraction. The focal image is the Christmas tree tag from the pack that has been cut with one of the smaller dies from the Sentimental Framing set. A larger die from the same set gives us our dazzling spruce glimmer mat, which really helps our tree pop against the plaid. Our sentiment — from the Greetings for You ephemera pack — sits atop a twist of gold ribbon and a banner of Crumb Cake stripes. The bow of Real Red shiny ribbon and festive sequins scattered across the front finish things off with the perfect amount of holiday twinkle.

I hope you’ll tune in tomorrow as we pair up some more fun holiday goodies from the crafty stash to make another quick and easy card for the holiday card list!

Golden Sentiment

Happy midweek, friends! This week we’re exploring a fun design theme – all that glitters is gold. And we’re using all kinds of golden crafty goodies, new and old, to create our projects. Today’s clean and simple design uses a die negative as the star of the show and combines some Gathering Together products with the Sentimental Framing stamps.

We get started with a neutral base of Very Vanilla cardstock. Our focal panel is the backdrop of our card front and combines a sheet of the Gathering Moments paper pack with some gold textured metallic paper. The largest leaf die from the Gathering Moments die set provides our negative that allows that beautiful gold focal image to take center stage. Our sentiment from the Sentimental Framing stamp set is stamped in Early Espresso and then cut out with the Stylish Shapes banner die using the extension method. I really love the play on words with this sentiment and the negative space of this card design – it really couldn’t have worked out more perfectly! The sentiment is adhered at the bottom-third of the card with dimensionals over a double twist of Mossy Meadow & Gold ribbon. We finish things off with some green Traditional Sparkling sequins – a perfect way to tie it all together.

I’ll be bringing you some more shiny goodness tomorrow. I hope you’ll drop in and check it out!

Sketchy Fridays: Thinking of You

Happy Sketchy Fridays on a Saturday! It was a long work day yesterday and I didn’t have any giddyup left. This week, we’re putting our sentiments center stage in our designs.

For those of you who are new here, Sketchy Fridays is a weekly series where we use a card sketch to design our featured card.

This week’s card is based on Sketch #691 from the Instagram Freshly Made Sketches crew. Today’s design features the new Sentimental Framing stamp set and Beautiful Butterflies die bundle.

We get started with a base of Strawberry Slush cardstock. The background panel of Pool Party is machine embossed with the Beautiful Butterflies embossing folder. I mounted it with the debossed side up because I really liked how this made the floral pattern of the focal strip stand out. Our focal section starts with a strip of the Florals in Bloom patterned paper that is matted with a strip of the yellow Beautiful Bokeh paper. The sentiment from Sentimental Journey takes center stage. It’s stamped in Secret Sea on white cardstock that’s been cut using the Spotlight on Nature dies. The sentiment panel is mounted on dimensionals over a twist of the iridescent striped ribbon. I added a small butterfly cut from pastel ombré glimmer paper and Secret Sea cardstock using the Beautiful Butterfly dies. It’s mounted just above the sentiment on dimensionals to draw the eye in. A few In Color flat pearls on either side of the sentiment panel finish things off.

A little later today, we’ll be wrapping up our sentiment series. And I’m going to offer you a little sneak peak at some upcoming Online Exclusives that release in just a little over a week! I hope you’ll drop back by and check it out.

Sentiments

Joy and Laughter

This week, our designs have the sentiment taking center stage. We’re going to be working with sentiments of all shapes and sizes to keep things interesting and to show how even a small sentiment can be eye-catching. Today, we’re using both ribbon and dimension to bring the eye to our intended focal point. We’re combining a medium-sized sentiment from the Pattern of Friendship stamp set and a very busy piece of patterned paper from the Perennial Lavender paper pack to create this fun friendship card.

We get started with a base of Crumb Cake cardstock. I wanted to keep this design super simple, so we’re combining two major elements – patterned paper and a sentiment. The Perennial Lavender sheet is cut to leave a very small border around all sides of the focal panel. I tied a strip of Fresh Freesia velvet ribbon around the front panel, which will help draw the eye to the sentiment panel we will mount on top. The sentiment panel is cut from Fresh Freesia cardstock with the Sentimental Framing dies using the extension method to ensure that the panel is long enough to fit the full sentiment. The sentiment is stamped onto the panel in Fresh Freesia and Versamark and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. The panel is mounted over the velvet ribbon on the right. I colored the butterfly with Wink of Stella and added purple shimmer gems to add shimmer and draw the eye up to the sentiment panel.

Tomorrow we’re going to use a fun fold to make our sentiment the feature statement (pun intended) of the design. I hope you’ll drop by and check it out!

The Best Dad

This week, we’re getting a sneak peek at some of the newest products that Stampin’ Up! is set to release next week. And today we’re once again pairing up some current products with what’s soon to come to create this super cool scene. I love the sunset mountain hues of blues and purples, and the Splendid Autumn paper pack has some terrific sheets to choose from to create our scene using the Scenic Adventure bundle.

We get started with a base of Misty Moonlight cardstock. A sheet of the Splendid Autumn paper serves as our sunset backdrop for the mountain scene and is matted with a sheet of the Thoughtful Designs specialty paper. I used the Scenic Adventure dies to cut mountains and trees from coordinating scraps of the Splendid Autumn papers. I also added the ripples of the lake in the foreground with the dies, along with the faint stars and moon in upper-right corner. And I stamped some clouds in the distance using the Scenic Adventure stamp and Pool Party ink. The mountains and trees are layered with dimensionals to give depth to the scene and Wink of Stella gives the perfect amount of subtle twinkle to the the tops of the trees and mountain, the ripples in the water, and the moon in the sky. The sentiment from She’s the Greatest and He’s the Greatest is stamped in Misty Moonlight on white cardstock and diecut with the smaller Sentimental Framing die. I added some blue linen thread behind the panel before adhering to the card front with dimensionals. We finish things off with two tone sparkle gems in opposing corners to ensure the eye passes over the whole design.

Next, we’ll be taking it to the beach. Pack your flip flops and come along!

Just Breathe

Happy Monday, everyone. It was a busy weekend around here with all sorts of different activities. I feel like I need a weekend from my weekend!

This week, we’re getting some little sneak peeks at some upcoming releases. Did you know that next week Stampin’ Up! will be releasing new Online Exclusives and a new annual catalog?! Today’s design is the perfect combination between old and new as we pair the Thoughtful Journey designer series paper with the new Sentimental Framing dies and Scenic Adventure stamps in this very clean and simple design.

We get started with a base of Petunia Pop cardstock. The sheet of flowering thistle paper from the Thoughtful Journey paper pack is cut using the new Sentimental Framing dies. The decorative frame is adhered to the card base with dimensionals while the center section is adhered directly to the card base to give a layered effect. The sentiment from the new Scenic Adventure stamp set is stamped in Pretty Peacock on white cardstock and diecut with the frame from the Enduring Beauty set. A twist of Fresh Freesia seam binding ribbon is adhered behind the sentiment panel at the base of the focal panel. The smaller flowers and leaves are cut from Mossy Meadow and Fresh Freesia cardstock using the Enduring Beauty dies and adhered behind the corner of the sentiment panel. Some starburst sequins finish things off with a pop of color and a patterned twinkle.
