Flower Market Love

This week, we’re taking a closer look at a portion of the Country Woods suite by Stampin’ Up! In particular, we’ll be focusing on the Country Flowers bundle, which includes photopolymer stamps and coordinating dies, and the Country Woods designer series paper. There is so much to love about this suite of products, but what really drew me was the feeling of a slow, summer afternoon swinging on the porch, which is how I felt when I first saw the images and papers. Perhaps it’s because I grew up in the country, and the milk tin and flowers and woodgrains all had that country feel to them. But whether you like a rustic, country feel or not, these products are — like everything Stampin’ Up! designs — so very versatile and lend themselves to all sorts of styles.

Today, I’m borrowing a design from fellow demo Susan Wong. I love how she used the woodgrain paper to “build” a door and then how she stacked the milk tin full of flowers in front. I don’t happen to have the Country Lace designer paper, but I made my own patterned sheet to mimic the sheet in the inspiration layout by stamping a repeating pattern using the small detail stamp, and I think it turned out to be an okay substitution.

So we get started with a card base of Smoky Slate cardstock. The background panel, as I mentioned, is a hand-stamped pattern using Smoky Slate ink and the small detail stamp from the Country Flowers stamp set. I decided to use the darker blue woodgrain sheet from the Country Woods paper pack to make the door. For the milk bucket, I decided to use one of the lighter woodgrain patterns from the DSP pack and stamped the image on top in Basic Gray ink, adding a handle with a Stampin’ Blend. I used some leftover scraps of Meandering Meadow designer paper to cut the leaves and flowers and then used rainbow dots for the flower centers. The flower market sign on the door is made using a small die from the Unbounded Love die set and the sentiment from Country Flowers. A small piece of linen thread and a metallic gem serve as the hanger. The sentiment from Country Flowers is stamped on white cardstock and then cut with paper snips. Two rhinestones help draw the eye to the sentiment.

It’s so fun bringing inspiration designs to life. And this week, we’re going to be doing just that. I hope you’ll tag along with me as we make a whole array of beautiful cards with Country Flowers.

Clean and Simple

Sending Love

When you’re low on crafting time, keeping things simple is key. I typically choose a simple sketch and a few coordinating supplies when I’m needing to make a card but don’t have time for lots of layers or fussy cutting. The beautiful thing about the products Stampin’ Up! offers is how wonderfully they coordinate to give you consistent results each and every time. And I don’t say that simply because I’m a demonstrator. It’s one of THE reasons that I became a demonstrator!

We begin our card today with a base of Berry Burst cardstock. The background panel is cut a tad smaller than the card base and then machine embossed using the Distressed Tile embossing folder. I decided from the get-go that I wanted metallic gold to be an accent color for this card design, so after embossing the Berry Burst quarter-sheet and cutting it to size, I used my finger to lightly rub metallic gold ink across the card front to bring out the gorgeous pattern. A two-inch strip of Thoughtful Journey designer paper is adhered to the left side of the embossed panel, leaving a small strip of the panel exposed on the left so that the pattern goes from edge to edge in the background. This whole panel is then adhered to the base using dimensionals. The sentiment from Country Flowers is stamped on white cardstock diecut using the Unbounded Love dies and it, too, is adhered with dimensionals. A twist of gold trim and a few gold Blooming Pearls add that bit of sparkle and bring out the golden hues in the designer paper. And a few In Color shimmer gems on either side of the sentiment ensure your eye lands here last.

Tune in tomorrow to check out a variation on this card layout that gives us a very different look but results in a card that’s just as stunning!

Zinnias for You

Things have really begun to green up in our area and I’ve begun making treks to my favorite garden center to fill my patio pots. I really love having a yard full of color! For our growing area, I have to choose plants that not only like our mild springs but that really love the sweltering heat of summer. And one of my all-time garden favorites is zinnias. They come in a wide variety of colors, are fairly bug resistant, and don’t mind the Texas heat one bit — winner!

When Stampin’ Up! released the Flowering Zinnias suite in the latest Online Exclusives, I immediately fell in love with the designer paper. I wasn’t quite so sure about the stamps or dies. If I’m being honest, I didn’t immediately like the stamps or dies because I felt like they were a little too fussy and I was intimidated by the thought of trying to use them. But I was soon convinced that I needed them when I began seeing all of the drop-dead stunning designs my fellow stampers were making with them.

Believe me when I tell you that this card looks way more complicated than it actually is to assemble. The dies really do do all of the work for you. And just look at the stunning results!

We start with a base of Flirty Flamingo cardstock. I next diecut a quarter panel of the same and then embossed using the Zinnia embossing folder. This panel is cut slightly smaller than the card base. I then began diecutting flowers from Real Red and Calypso Coral cardstock using the Simply Zinnias dies. The flower centers are a combination of Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight. Next are the leaves, which have been diecut from Shaded Spruce and Old Olive. The smaller flowers are diecut from Lemon Lolly. The sentiment from Perennial Postage is stamped on white cardstock and then diecut using the soon-to-release Unbounded Love dies.

The embossed Flirty Flamingo panel is adhered directly to the card base. I next assembled the flowers. To assemble, I used dimensionals between the two flower petal layers. A large Zot glue dot secures the orange center to the top layer of petals and then I used a fine tip glue pen to add adhesive to the circle of small flowers that sits atop the flower center. For the smaller budding flowers, a glue dot adheres the flower to the stem.

To complete the card, I began by adhering the sentiment to the center with dimensionals. The red flowers come next and are also adhered to the card front using dimensionals. The leaves are layered underneath the flowers and secured with glue dots. The Calypso Coral flower is secured directly to the card base with a large Zot glue dot to give dimension to the look. The small stem of accent flowers is secured with a single dimensional, while the flowers themselves are held in place with glue dots. Shiny sequins finish off the design with some flare and a bit of sparkle.

I’ll be bringing you some BONUS content tomorrow of brand NEW product as we take a romp through the meadow using the gorgeous Unbounded Beauty and Thoughtful Journey products. You won’t want to miss it!

Just for You

One of my favorite times of year is right now — spring! I love to admire all of the beautiful flowers, including the ones that I plant myself! Some of my favorites include zinnias, morning glory, dianthus, and salvia, to name just a few. Stampin’ Up! has some really wonderful botanical stamp sets, and this week we’ll be exploring a number of them.

Today we have a super clean and simple card. This card is built on a base of Pretty Peacock. The backdrop for our focal section is a strip of Hello, Irresistible designer series paper and quarter-sheet of white cardstock embossed with the Softly Sophisticated embossing folder, which was a most recent Sale-a-Bration item. For the image panel, I diecut a piece of white using the Nested Essentials dies and a lovely floral arrangement is stamped in the center. This lovely stem of flowers is stamped using the Softly Sophisticated stamp set, also a most recent Sale-a-Bration set. The pottery bowl is stamped on Very Vanilla using the Planted Paradise stamp set. Our sentiment is stamped on vellum and diecut using the Nested Essentials dies, along with the nesting banner die cut from Berry Burst shimmer paper.

We’ll be using the Planted Paradise set for tomorrow’s card and I can’t wait for you to see it!

Card Sets · Fun Folds · Hello Irresistible

Irresistible Birthday Happiness

Today I’m sharing another design in the Irresistible Birthday card pack that will be available in the Etsy shoppe at the end of the week. I had a lot of fun learning this new fun fold that my mom shared with me (originally shared by Dawn Griffith). The original design is a square card, and I like to keep all of my designs a standard size that doesn’t require special envelopes or additional postage. So I resized the original to be a standard-sized vertical card. Because I didn’t want to make any mistakes with my “good paper,” I worked on getting all of the measurements and folds just right by using paper from our shredding bin. And now I have a workable template where I scribbled all of the measurements as I went. Do you ever make templates? It helps me to keep all of the instructions I scribble down straight with what they actually make!

I am really loving the versatility of this designer paper. The first design in the Irresistible Birthday card pack really lent itself to being more masculine, but this card is definitely softer and more feminine. It’s the perfect combination of pale pinks and soft, rosey oranges. And I think the fun fold design really adds some fun to this card!

Card Sets · Hello Irresistible

Irresistible Birthday

Howdy, everyone! It’s been a busy week in the studio. I’ve been taking a social media class and practicing what I’m learning. So there is lots of new content, exciting features, and new designs headed your way!

Today we’re taking a look at the first design in a new birthday pack called Irresistible Birthday that will be hitting the Etsy shoppe next week.

This set of designs is based on the SU! designer paper series called Hello Irresistible. The designs in this paper pack are divine! A mix of florals and hippie vibes but nothing too feminine, as you can see here with this more masculine design.

This card came together pretty quickly. As I mentioned earlier this week, “practice makes progress” and I’m certainly getting faster at pairing patterned papers. Filming the making of this card so I could show you the design process in an Instagram reel is what took the longest. (See, I’m putting my training to work!) I’m still getting the hang of how to set things up and working through how to have the right supplies at hand so filming goes smoothly .

Inked Botanicals Set

I’ve always found working with patterned paper to be a bit challenging, particularly when working to use multiple patterns in one design. So I decided to challenge myself by creating a pack of cards using multiple patterns on each design. As I tell my son when he encounters a challenge, “practice makes progress.” And naturally, practice also allows us to feel more comfortable within a particular challenge.

I received the SU! Inked Botanicals designer series paper as part of one of my most recent supply orders. I was really drawn to the cheery designs included in this paper pack and how they could lend themselves to all types of occasions. I was also a little surprised to discover that using floral patterns does not necessarily equate to a feminine design. My biggest take-away while designing this card pack is that working with several patterns is easier when you focus on combining smaller and larger patterns into one design. This way, the patterns compliment one another rather than competing for attention.

This lovely card pack is now up in the Etsy shoppe and available for purchase.

Bold Bouquet · Dies · Wink of Stella

Birthday Bouquet

I have lots of new things to share in the days ahead after getting a few new goodies delivered yesterday. Today’s design features the SU! Bold Bouquet stamps and dies.

This sunny design would be perfect for any recipient, even the guys in your life. The plaid design in the Inked Botanicals designer paper bundle provides the perfect neutral backdrop for this gorgeous bouquet, which sits atop glimmer vellum diecut using the Deckled Rectangle set. The sentiment is nestled in the bouquet. For a little extra sparkle, the larger roses have centers accentuated with the Wink of Stella glitter brush. This design has the perfect amount of sparkle in person and is sure to bring a smile to its recipient!

Pansy Paper Piecing

As promised, today’s design features the Pansy Patch dies. The focal image of this card is 100% diecut from cardstock. I wanted to create a realistic focal image and selected a pansy variety that had pink, purple, and yellow hues and used the inspiration photo to guide my color cardstock selections.

Although the paper pieces are on the larger side, the width of the detailed pieces is narrow enough to make traditional adhesive runners a less than ideal choice for adhering the layers together. In cases such as these, I turn to one of two adhesives—the fine-tip glue pen or adhesive sheets. In this case, I elected to use the glue pen and it worked beautifully!

Patch of Pansies

The long-awaited first batch of new SU! product arrived late this afternoon, and I’m just getting the opportunity to sit down and have a little crafting time. Knowing that I had two sympathy cards in the queue, I decided to start with the Pansy Patch stamps and dies. The stamps layer beautifully to create realistic-looking blossoms, and the dies cut snugly around each stamped image for a fussy-cut-free design. The die set also includes dies that paper piece blossoms and stems. Check back tomorrow to see the result!
