Words of Beauty

Great Friend

Happy Friday, everyone! This felt like both the longest and shortest week on record. I’m not quite sure how that happens, but that’s where we are. Needless to say, I’m ready for the weekend and an opportunity to unwind.

Today is clean & simple Friday as we continue our trek through our crafting stash to create outdoorsy designs. And today’s card comes together in a jiffy with the help of the new Words of Beauty stamp set and the Nests of Winter patterned paper. Let’s check it out.

Today’s clean and simple card gets started with a base of Pretty Peacock cardstock. I cut down the one sheet wonder from Nests of Winter into panels and used one of the panels for the focal panel on this card. The strip cut to make it fit the A2 card front is used as the sentiment panel. The sentiment from the new Words of Beauty stamp set is stamped in Early Espresso on the patterned strip and then adhered at the top of the focal panel with dimensionals. A few snowflakes add a realistic look to the light snowfall in our panel and then the adhesive gold hearts reinforce the theme of our sentiment.

Card designs don’t have to be complicated to convey a strong message. And I love how this card hits you in the feels! Tune in tomorrow to see how we wrap up our series this week.

Wonderful Time

It is most definitely the most wonderful time of the year. Wanna know why? Two things: (1) it’s starting to feel like fall, which is my most favorite season; AND (2) it’s time for the new Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog!!! Have you checked out all the new goodies in the shop today? What’s on your shopping list? I’ve already shopped twice and still have a few more things I’m on the fence about.

This week, we’re creating very clean & simple holiday cards using the Joyful Days Memories & More card pack, Greetings for You ephemera pack, and the Christmas Tags & More 6×6 designer series paper pack with coordinating ephemera sheets. Today’s card is maybe just about the simplest design of the whole week. You can literally turn out 6 cards just. like. that.

Today’s card starts with a base of Crumb Cake cardstock. I selected the most wonderful time of year card from the Joyful Days pack and cut off just enough so it fits horizontally on the card front. Before adhering with dimensionals, I wrapped the decorative card with some (sadly retired) Cherry Cobbler & Gold satin ribbon tied with a nice, big bow. I finished it all off with a scattering of Pool Party sequins from the Traditional Sparkling sequins pack. Easy peasy!

Tomorrow we’re going to be creating a holiday card that has long legs. You’ll have to drop by to see what I mean. *wink*

Fairy Korn

Welcome in on this fine Tuesday! We’re enjoying a cool front here, which makes it a bit more pleasant to be outside. And anytime you can enjoy a July evening outside is a good one in Texas!

Did you get a chance to see all of the new products that dropped today? There’s a whole new batch of Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives and 2 new kits. If you haven’t seen the new goodies yet, you should pop over to my store and take a look! This week, we’re creating designs that use some of these new products. Today, I’m showcasing the new Spooky Sweet paper pack and included ephemera. You can easily whip up adorable Halloween-themed scenes like this one.

This card gets started with a base of Basic Black cardstock. I cut one of the 4×5 cards from the Spooky Sweet scene sheet to serve as the backdrop for this scene card, and it’s matted with a piece of the pink/purple pastel ombre shimmer paper for some extra sparkly pizzazz. A handful of ephemera create our focal section, which is a combination of the cute bear dressed up as a fairy, a cauldron and bubbles, some candy corn, and a bat. Dimensionals are the key to giving lots of depth to this scene. Wink of Stella adds subtle twinkle to the fairy’s wings, crown, and scepter, as well as the cauldron bubbles. I also added some rhinestone and shimmer gems to the fairy’s crown, some clear gems to the cauldron bubbles, and finished off the night sky with a few shimmer foam stars. Easy peasy!

Tomorrow we’re headed to the monster mash. I hope you’ll drop in!

Thanks in the Bag

We’ve made it to Friday and that means that, for my kiddo, we’ve also made it to the end of another school year. It always feels like the second semester is on fast forward because we sure get from January to May super quickly!

This week, we’ve used the new School Days stamp set to create some cute clean and simple card designs. And we’re finishing things with a bag full of thanks.

We get started with a base of Basic Black cardstock. The background panel is a sheet of Pumpkin Pie with a border a pencils stamped in black. The focal section starts with stamping the backpack image in Poppy Parade onto the background panel. I stamped the small stack of books onto a scrap of Pumpkin Pie using Misty Moonlight ink and then fussy cut with paper snips before adhering onto the background panel with dimensionals so that there is a slight overlap over the backpack. I stamped the sentiment in Misty Moonlight above the pile of books. A few Timid Tiger pearls add a shimmery pop. I tied some twine around the focal panel towards the top and then adhered it to the card base with dimensionals.

It’s been fun to design cards with our talented teachers in mind. Hopefully you’ve pocketed a few ideas for next year.

Next week we’re going to explore some goodies from the new catalog. I hope you’ll drop in to check it out!

Pack in Thanks

Anybody else a little floored by the fact that it’s already Wednesday?! This is one of those weeks where time is flying by at Mach 10! And I’m pretty sure the teachers and students are absolutely hoping that this last week of school flies by.

This week’s designs are all about honoring those special teachers who give our kiddos 150%. And we’re using the current School Days stamp set to create clean and simple designs that show the appreciation they all deserve.

Today’s card keeps the punches of color to the focal elements. We get started with a base of white cardstock. The focal panel is diecut with the largest Textured Notes die. The sentiment from With You in Mind is stamped in black toward the bottom-right corner of the panel. I stamped the backpack from School Days in Poppy Parade on a scrap of white cardstock and then fussy cut with my paper snips. It’s adhered next to the sentiment with dimensionals. The apple is stamped in Garden Green next to the backpack. Things are finished off with some gold textured dots.

Designs don’t have to be overly complicated to have a big impact. And this card definitely brings home the thanks. I hope you’ll continue to follow along this week as we create more teacher appreciation designs.

Too Kind

Were you able to check out all of the crafty goodness that the Luv 2 Stamp Group brought during our Instahop on Thursday? It’s totally worth checking out! Link in my post from Thursday. Meanwhile, it’s been a busy couple of days here and that has totally cramped my crafty time, as you may have noticed by my absence yesterday. But sometimes we just have to roll with the punches and go with the flow. And that’s okay.

This week, we’re making our way through the garden and today we’re stopping to enjoy the spring wildflowers. We’re keeping it super simple with today’s card design by using the Mixed Media Florals Memories & More pack. Here in Texas, the strips of grass along a lot of the major highways are beginning to be covered in wildflowers. This is all thanks to Ladybird Johnson’s wildflower project back in the 1970s, and I must say that I just love her for it! And I love that the State has worked hard to maintain all of the wildflower seedlings from year to year with their carefully timed mowing (or lack thereof, as appropriate) to ensure that the flowers reseed. So if you’ve ever wondered why Texas has some of the prettiest right-of-ways in the country, you can tip your hat to Ladybird!

Our design today starts with a base of Basic Black cardstock. The focal panel is one of the notecards from the Mixed Media Florals Memories & More. I wrapped some natural tones linen thread and Daffodil Delight satin ribbon around the top to bring out the greens and yellows in our focal panel. The sentiment is from the Wanted To Say die set and is cut from black cardstock and red glimmer paper from the Festive pack. I added a ladybug from the sticker sheet and a few yellow and white Starburst sequins to complete our scene and tie all of the colors in the design together.

Tomorrow we’re going to wrap up our garden series with a trip to the country and I hope you’ll come along!

Bunches of Thanks

This week, we’ve been using the Country Flowers bundle by Stampin’ Up! to make some lovely cards. Today, we’re rounding out the series with a clean and simple design. This is a layout that could be used over again and would work beautifully with a larger floral image, as well.

We get started with a card base of Basic White cardstock. Our focal panel is a pairing of Pretty Peacock and Moody Mauve cardstock. I stamped a repeating floral image in Versamark using the Country Flowers stamp set. The sentiment from Something Fancy is stamped in black on white cardstock and then diecut using the Unbounded Love set, which is then matted with a circle diecut using the Spotlight on Nature set. A pair of faux bows using Pretty Peacock & gold metallic ribbon and iridescent striped ribbon are adhered by the sentiment panel. To draw the eye across the design, I’ve used pink and peacock sequins from the Sequins Trio for some sparkle.

I hope you’ve been inspired by this weeks Country Flowers designs. Tune in next week as I give you a sneak peek at one of my favorite upcoming Online Exclusives bundle set to release on July 3rd!

Friends for Life

Thank You, Friend

Happy weekend, all! We have officially completed our first week of summer break here, and we’ve enjoyed just bummin’ around, for the most part. Between the rain and the start of the Texas summer heat, it hasn’t been the best week to be outside. But we’ve made the best of things and found plenty of other things to occupy our time. The kiddo really loves to bowl, and we renewed our Kids Bowl Free subscription for this summer. This cool program allows you to pay a flat fee for the summer to bowl 2 games each weekday with your kiddo(s) at your local participating bowling alley. It’s an absolute steal and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed this program for going on 5 years now. Wanna learn more? Check it out here.

I’ve also made plenty of time to play around in the craft room this week, as well. And today, we’re finishing up our look at the projects we can create using the Stampin’ Up! Friends for Life stamps and dies. I kept things simple today with a take on a design posted over on the Stampin’ Through the Catalog page. This clean and simple design combines Friends for Life and Softly Said sets to make this lovely card. This design caught my eye for its simplicity. You can easily turn out a number of these and swap out sentiments to fit the occasion.

We get started with a card base of Basic White cardstock. While a standard sized card, the cardstock is cut down the long edge rather than the short edge, giving you a score at the top. The paint smudge die gives us our background and is a combination of Summer Splash, Calypso Coral, Petunia Pop, Peach Pie, and Pretty in Pink cardstock. Each smudge is oriented a different direction and is slightly offset for some visual interest. The sentiment backdrop is white cardstock that has been debossed with the leaf-print die, cut out with the open heart die, and then lightly smudged with Pretty in Pink ink to really bring out the debossed pattern. A twist of the white diagonal trim is adhered behind the heart, which is placed over the backdrop with dimensionals. The sentiment from Simply Said is stamped in black on white cardstock and then fussy cut with paper snips before being adhered with dimensionals. The design is finished with the white and pink sequins from the Sequins Trio set.

In case you missed this week’s Terrific Tuesdays video where I demonstrated how to deboss using your dies, you can catch the quick tutorial by clicking here.

I hope you got some ideas from this week’s cards featuring the Friends for Life bundle. Next week’s theme is Father’s Day and we’ll be using a whole host of different sets to make some great cards. I hope you’ll drop by and check them all out!

Friends for Life

Hey

We’ve made it to the middle of the week. And here in North Texas, we just might need a boat to get about town. We’ve had so much rain over the last several weeks and just keep getting more. Everything is absolutely soaked and it seems we’re maybe stuck in this wet weather pattern for a while longer. I know we’ll be wishing for this rain come July, but for this brief moment, it wouldn’t be so bad if we had a day or two without it!

But how about some bright and cheery cards to bring us out of our blues? This week, our featured Stampin’ Up! bundle is called Friends for Life. This terrific bundle includes photopolymer stamps and coordinating dies. And today’s card is a clean and simple design that uses a fun technique called die debossing, where we use our dies to both cut and make an impression at the same time. Click here for a brand NEW Terrific Tuesdays video where I show you how it’s done.

We start today’s card with a base of Peach Pie cardstock. I also cut a quarter-sheet of Peach Pie for the debossed background panel. The twig of leaves is diecut from Summer Splash cardstock using the Friends for Life dies. By making a sandwich of Summer Splash, the twig die, and Peach Pie, you are able to cut and deboss at the same time. I trimmed the Peach Pie panel to ensure that a 1/8-inch border of card base shows on each side. Using the Heartfelt Hexagon stamps, stamp the double border on white cardstock in Summer Splash ink. Then stamp “hey” from the Saying Hey set in Summer Splash in the center of the hexagon, making sure you cover the ending punctuation with a piece of tape. Punch your sentiment panel using the Heartfelt Hexagon punch. Once you have determined the placement of your sentiment panel, stamp a small twig of leaves in the blank space of the debossed background panel. Affix the diecut twig using a glue dot. Then affix your hexagonal sentiment panel on top using dimensionals. Finish with Summer Splash In Color resin dots.

This card design is simple to replicate and could easily be adapted for any occasion by simply modifying color scheme and/or sentiment. Have you tried the die debossing technique? What did you think?

Flower for a Friend

We’re rounding out our week of designs using the Stampin’ Up! Inspiring Snapdragons bundle, which includes coordinating cling stamps and dies. Today, we have a clean and simple design that was inspired by a sketch from my sketchbook.

We get started with a base of Shy Shamrock cardstock. I also cut a quarter-sheet of Shy Shamrock and then embossed using the Cute Crochet embossing folder. The embossed quarter panel is then trimmed down to be 1/4-inch smaller than the standard card front. The panel is adhered to the card front using dimensionals. I next diecut the middle-sized snapdragon from white cardstock using the Inspiring Snapdragons dies. Using Pretty in Pink and Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Blends, I colored the decorative layer of the snapdragon. I used a glue pen to apply adhesive to the decorative layer and adhere it to the snapdragon base. The sentiment is diecut from Shy Shamrock glimmer paper and Basic White cardstock using the Friends for Life dies. I used a glue pen to apply adhesive and adhere to the two sentiment layers together.

To assemble the focal section of the card, I began with a glue dot in the center of the card. I cut linen thread and made a decorative faux bow and used the glue dot to hold it in place. Using dimensionals, I next adhered the snapdragon over the linen thread and then the sentiment over the snapdragon blossom. To ensure the sentiment stands above everything else, the dimensional layer is doubled. I finished things off with a scattering of Shy Shamrock shimmer gems.

I really love this card design because it’s super simple to make and replicate quickly, but it looks like a million bucks. If you have other sentiment diecuts in your stash, you could easily substitute a different one for a multitude of occasions.

Next week, we’ll be focusing on the Friends for Life bundle. I hope you’ll pop in and see how many different ways we can use this fabulous bundle!
