This week, we’re flying high with Stampin’ Up! sets that feature vehicles of flight. Thus far, we’ve been soaring with the Hot Air Balloon bundle. And today’s design is (almost) directly inspired by fellow SU! demo Anne Granger. Just a few tweaks here & there with products I had on hand and *voila* a fantastic birthday card ready to hoist your well wishes.
This card design begins with a base of Lost Lagoon cardstock. The background panel consists of a mat of Pretty Peacock soft shimmer paper and the lovely rainbow pattern designer paper from the Sale-a-Bration pack called Sunny Days. The focal panel is also matted with the shimmer paper and the balloon is stamped directly on the white cardstock panel in coordinating colors of Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock. I dressed up the sentiment by diecutting it separately using the Autumn Leaves dies. This design is finished off with Pretty Peacock sequins from the Sequins Trio set and the Pretty Peacock & Gold metallic ribbon.
Tune in tomorrow to get a SNEAK PEEK at a brand new flight-related suite of products. I know you’re gonna love it as much as I do!

Preparing for my son’s birthday last week had birthday front and center in the design line-up. And today’s card is a second take on a sketch by Stampin’ Pretty — with a flip of the smaller background panel and a little shift on the position of the decorative element.
This card begins with a base of Night of Navy cardstock. I chose two star patterns from the Bright & Beautiful designer series paper pack to serve as the backdrop. I used a strip of More Dazzle specialty paper and Night of Navy & gold sheer ribbon to bridge the divide between the two patterns. For the decorative element, I chose the balloons from the new Filled with Fun die set and diecut them from all of the shades of the Soft Shimmer specialty paper pack. The sentiment from Filled with Fun is stamped on white shimmer paper and the decorative element is white glimmer paper diecut using the Thoughtful Expressions set. A few Night of Navy tinsel gems finish off this sparkly celebration in an envelope!
This week, we’ll be exploring some botanical designs. I hope you’ll follow along!

Wonderful Wednesday, everyone! We’re beginning to have the chill of winter weather in the air here in North Texas and many mornings of heavy frost. Is it beginning to feel more like winter in your area?
And speaking of winter, today’s card tips the hat to winter birthdays AND shows yet another way that you can use the Merriest Trees bundle to create beautiful projects. Today, I wanted to share how you can layer the tree dies to give realistic depth and dimension to the trees on your projects.
In this week’s Terrific Tuesdays video, we spoke briefly about the various sizes of trees in the suite of dies. Not only does this make it quick and easy to cut trees of all sizes, but it also allows you to create beautiful layers on single tree for a more realistic look. This card design shows you both.
The base of this card is a sheet of Night of Navy cardstock. The background panel is the ombre night sky patterned sheet from the O Holy Night designer series paper pack. I decided on a trio of trees as the focal scene with the center tree as the focal image. I stuck with shades of blue and blue-green for a more visually unified scene. I used vellum as the backdrop for the trees. The smallest tree in the background is diecut from Pretty Peacock using the two-panel tree die. The medium-sized tree closer to the foreground is embossed with an older snowflake embossing folder (you could easily substitute the Snowflake Sky EF) and then diecut from Lost Lagoon using the three-panel tree. The base of the focal tree in the foreground is Night of Navy and is diecut using the four-panel tree die. I used several different sheets of the Shining Brightly designer series paper as the layers for the focal image, which are adhered to the tree base. Each tree layer is cut using a different sized tree die from the suite, which makes for very quick and easy layering without any fussy cutting. The edges of each of the layers is curled up for a realistic look of fluffy layers in the tree. Isn’t this a stunning effect? I finished off the scene with some snowflakes diecut from white cardstock and a sentiment. While the snowflake dies I used are from a retired set, there are beautiful snowflakes in a number of sets in the Holiday Mini Catalog, including Merriest Trees, Stars at Night (on sale), and Wishes All Around (on sale).

The leaves are really putting on a show in our area now. We have a beautiful Ash tree in our front yard that is covered in beautiful shades of yellow right now. And the drive up the main parkway in our neighborhood is beginning to look like it’s lined by fire. I just LOVE this time of year!
Today’s card is inspired by all of the beautiful foliage of fall. The card base is Pretty Peacock cardstock, and although hues of blue are not necessarily traditional for leaves, it certainly works to complement the lovely shades of foliage we traditionally see this time of year. I used a beautiful vanilla foiled pattern from the All About Autumn designer paper pack to help the leaves really pop. The different colored leaves are diecut from Oxidized Copper and All About Autumn using the Autumn Leaves die collection. The sentiment, from the Circle Sayings stamp set, is heat embossed in copper atop a layer of Early Espresso that has been diecut using the Nested Essentials dies. A scattering of brown sequins adds some dazzle and moves the eye across the design.
I love how an everyday thing, like a leaf, can be used to create a beautiful and versatile card design.

As a paper crafter, I try not to miss an opportunity to add that special handmade touch to gifts. It’s incredibly simple to dress up those packages with a lovely little something. From beautiful ribbon to a unique gift tag, a gift can be jazzy in no time!
I recently whipped up these cute gift tags so I would be ready for the next birthday party. These designs may look fancy and a bit complicated, but each design came together quickly. Let’s see how these came together.
Candles. The tag base is Basic White cardstock diecut using the Merriest Trees dies. I used some older washi tape I had on hand to serve as the colorful grounding for the sentiment panel, which begins with a piece of vellum diecut using the circle from the All That die collection. The candles are stamped in multiple colors on white cardstock using the Big News stamps. I colored each one lightly with a coordinating watercolor pencil and then add a bit of sparkle to the flames of each one using Stickles. The “happy birthday” sentiment is stamped on white cardstock using the Papertrey Ink Birthday Basics stamps and then diecut using the Bunch of Banners dies. A few iridescent discs on either side of the sentiment keep the eye in the center of the tag.
Wish. The tag base is comprised of two layers. The base layer is cut from Oh So Ombre designer paper and the Crumb Cake is diecut using the Merry Tags dies. Next comes the silver star banner which is diecut from metallic silver cardstock using the Star Blast dies. The sentiment is a single Papertrey Ink die and cut from a sheet of Pretty Peacock. Everything is held together with glue from the precision glue pen.

We made three cards together during the Stampin’ Up! World Card Making Day event, and today I’m sharing the third and final design. If you were crafting along live, you may be thinking, “hey, this doesn’t look at all familiar!” And you would be right. To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of the original design, so I spiced things up a little bit.
The card base is a sheet of Lemon Lolly cardstock. I elected to make my own background using Daffodil Delight andthe focal image stamp from the Circle Sayings stamp set. The center sentiment panel is comprised of several layers. The base is a punched circle and sentiment from Circle Sayings stamped in Daffodil Delight. This circle is cut in half and then set aside. The focal sentiment is stamped in Blueberry Bushel on a circle punched from white cardstock. I spaced the yellow half-circles in the center and so that they were equidistant from the card edges and adhered the white circle between them to make a continuous panel. To make the center banner sentiment, score a piece of Azure Afternoon cardstock at 1″, 1 1/2″, 4″ and 4 1/2″, fold on the score marks, and then snip a triangle to make each of the banner ends. The sentiment is stamped in Blueberry Bushel. I stamped the cupcake image in black, colored with Stampin’ Blends, fussy cut it, and then adhered on the banner next to the sentiment. Tinsel gems were added for some sparkle and to help direct the eye across the design to the sentiment.

Today we’re taking a look at another one of the card designs I made during Stampin’ Up!’s World Card Making Day craft-along event. Did you attend? You can still catch it on replay if you want to join in on the fun!
This segment of the event was a lot of fun because I was reminded how you can alter a punch shape by pulling the paper through in order to punch one end at a time. I can never seem to remember that trick when I need it! Does that ever happen to you? This design is simple and requires a few shades of cardstock and the Heartfelt Hexagon stamp and punch bundle.
The card base is Basic White cardstock, as is each of the hexagon bases. The top and bottom hexagons are half of one punched hexagon. The colored elements are half of a hexagon. The center hexagon base uses the pull-through technique to elongate the hexagon shape to allow for the larger sentiment and the colored cardstock element. The hexagons are layered in a straight line up the center of the card with the center sentiment being popped up on dimensionals to really draw the eye. I love this eye-catching, yet simple, design. What do you think?
The All About Autumn designer series paper is another line that lends itself really well to a variety of fun fold designs. This pack of paper is full of stunning designs with one side of the sheet being fall-themed, full-color photographs and the other side showcasing gorgeous foil designs. The paper is so popular that it sells out quickly each time it comes back in stock, so you can’t hesitate to swipe it when you see it or else it’s usually gone on backorder again when you go back to the online store!
For this design, I wanted to create a card that you would be perfect for any recipient and selected elements that would draw out all of the finer details of the papers. The single-Z fun fold is perfect way to spice things up and create more visual interest and drama. The card base is a sheet of Crumb Cake cardstock, which helps draw out the lighter brown elements of the leaves in the sheet of DSP that serves as the card front. The sentiment panel is diecut from Very Vanilla cardstock using the Nested Essentials dies and stamped with the Charming Sentiments stamp in Copper Clay. A sheet of foiled Copper Clay provides a good base for the sentiment. Adding some dimensionals under the sentiment panel, along with the metallic Flirty Flamingo ribbon, allows it to pop against the busier background. The ribbon also draws out the orange and gold elements of the leaves. The inside of the card holds a small panel of foiled Copper Clay and a small sentiment panel.
I can think of so many of my friends with upcoming birthdays for whom this design would be perfect. What about you?

Growing up, one of my favorite things about my birthday was the family party with the homemade birthday cake. My grandmother was an excellent baker and made the most beautiful and delicious cakes. The floral pattern in this paper reminds me of the one of the cakes she made for my birthday one year. And I chose the pink accents for this design because strawberry cake is my absolute favorite!
I chose Crumb Cake as the card base since it provides the perfect neutral background for the beautiful floral patterned paper. The decorative nesting dies provide the perfect feminine touch for the sentiment panel and my favorite pink — Flirty Flamingo — provides the perfect pop of bright pink. When you want the look of a large bow in the background but an actual bow doesn’t really work, you can layer the ribbon and affix it underneath the sentiment panel to give the look and feel of a tied bow. The pink sequins provide some much-needed sparkle and pizzazz that just says, “Happy Birthday!” What do you think?
