Grateful Heart

Happy Independence Day, everyone! We are certainly thankful to live here in the great U. S. of A. and are looking forward to reflecting on all that makes America great!

This week, we’re creating designs using some of the new Online Exclusives that launched this week. Today’s design uses the Label Me Grateful bundle to create a stunning thank-you card.

We get started with a base of Misty Moonlight cardstock. The tone-on-tone backdrop is created using the detail dies in the Label Me Grateful die set. The leaves and twigs are adhered directly to the card base, leaving space in the center for the focal panel. Our focal panel begins with a backdrop of Thoughtful Designs specialty paper cut with the label die from Label Me Grateful. The sentiment from the coordinating stamp set is stamped in a combination of Cloud Cover and Versamark and then heat embossed for a touch of glossy sparkle. And as an added bonus, I happened to have some glitter embossing powder! The sentiment is cut out using the Everyday Arches dies. I had some Country Flowers white glimmer paper flowers leftover from another project that I chose to use as an accent at the bottom of the sentiment panel. I cut a few leaves from Mossy Meadow with the Label Me Grateful die to make the flower look more finished. The sentiment panel is adhered over silver & white sheer ribbon with dimensionals onto the Thoughtful Designs backdrop panel. The focal panel is then adhered in the center of the card with dimensionals. Drusy embellishments finish things off with a nice amount of sparkle.

Monster Mash

Happy Wacky Wednesday, as my kiddo likes to say! Part of me can’t believe it’s Wednesday, and then at the same time, it seems like the longest week ever. Funny how short weeks with holidays are always like that. Wacky for sure!

This week, we’re having fun designing with some of the new Online Exclusive products that launched this week. And today we’re playing with the new Spooky Sweet paper and ephemera again because I just couldn’t resist these cute critters all dressed up and ready for a good party! When I first saw the sheet of paper in the pack with all of the Halloween cuties on it, all I could think of was the song Monster Mash. And *voila* that’s how this design came to life.

We get started with a base of Highland Heather cardstock. I used another one of the 4×5 panels from another Spooky Sweet sheet as the background panel. It reminded me of a photo prop. What do you think? Next to the arches of our photo area, we adhere two of the large urns from the ephemera sheet and then place the mummy hippo in front on a layer of dimensionals. I cut two of the cute critters from Halloween cuties sheet in the pack and used multiple layers of dimensionals to adhere them in front of our hippo to give the effect of these little guys being more in front of our hippo who’s striking his best pose. To add to the festive atmosphere, we’ve hung some banners in the back and have some sparkly confetti falling. So simple but so cute!

Welcome in on this fine Tuesday! We’re enjoying a cool front here, which makes it a bit more pleasant to be outside. And anytime you can enjoy a July evening outside is a good one in Texas!

Did you get a chance to see all of the new products that dropped today? There’s a whole new batch of Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives and 2 new kits. If you haven’t seen the new goodies yet, you should pop over to my store and take a look! This week, we’re creating designs that use some of these new products. Today, I’m showcasing the new Spooky Sweet paper pack and included ephemera. You can easily whip up adorable Halloween-themed scenes like this one.

This card gets started with a base of Basic Black cardstock. I cut one of the 4×5 cards from the Spooky Sweet scene sheet to serve as the backdrop for this scene card, and it’s matted with a piece of the pink/purple pastel ombre shimmer paper for some extra sparkly pizzazz. A handful of ephemera create our focal section, which is a combination of the cute bear dressed up as a fairy, a cauldron and bubbles, some candy corn, and a bat. Dimensionals are the key to giving lots of depth to this scene. Wink of Stella adds subtle twinkle to the fairy’s wings, crown, and scepter, as well as the cauldron bubbles. I also added some rhinestone and shimmer gems to the fairy’s crown, some clear gems to the cauldron bubbles, and finished off the night sky with a few shimmer foam stars. Easy peasy!

Welcome to a bright, shiny week all full of fun and possibilities! We had a nice lowkey weekend. With things really heating up here in North Texas, there wasn’t much fun to be had outside unless you were up for frying an egg on the sidewalk! *wink*

We’re starting a new design series this week. With a whole new set of Online Exclusives dropping tomorrow, we’re going to be taking a closer look at some of the things that I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on. And first up is the Label Me Grateful bundle, which is a set of lovely scripted sentiments and a set of dies that includes a large label and accent pieces. Today, I’m pairing it up with the Timeless Plaid paper to create a nice masculine card.

We get started with a base of neutral Crumb Cake cardstock. A sheet of the green plaid paper from the Timeless Plaid pack serves as our backdrop. I used the label die from the new Label Me Grateful set to cut a piece of Cloud Cover Flower Garden foil. The sentiment from the Label Me Grateful stamp set is stamped in Secret Sea on white cardstock and then cut with the middle label die from the Mixed Labels die set using the extension method. The sentiment is adhered over a twist of the new Mossy Meadow & Gold trim using dimensionals. I cut a few sprigs of greenery and a flower from pastel ombre glimmer paper and tucked them next to the sentiment. One of the new Secret Sea charming shimmer faceted dots serves as the floral center, while gold flecked gems flank the sentiment panel on either side.

We’re closing out our 3D design series this week with a fun combination of designs. Do you ever find yourself looking for a cute way to give a gift card? This combo is the perfect way to dress it up! Our gift box has the Timeless Plaid paper and up-and-coming Label Me Thankful set sitting front & center, while our card pairs the Everyday Arches and Scenic Adventure dies.

The card and gift box have coordinating bases of Misty Moonlight cardstock. The gift card box is covered with a sheet of the Timeless Plaid cardstock. The sentiment panel is cut from white cardstock using the Everyday Arches dies and then the sentiment from The Right Words stamp set is stamped in Early Espresso. I used one of the newest Online Exclusive die sets called Label Me Thankful (releasing Tuesday!) to cut the leaves and acorns and finished things off with a few of the Earth Tones shimmer gems.

I wanted the card to give the feeling of looking through an old window, so I used the Everyday Arches dies to cut a window shape out of the sheet of Country Woods patterned paper that serves as the focal panel. I set this panel aside to build the scene using the Scenic Adventure dies. The underlying scene panel starts with a sheet of white cardstock that I cut with the largest arch die to fit behind the focal panel that will ultimately sit on top. I started by filling in the top with Cloud Burst ink using a blending brush to create a soft sky. Next, we move to creating the water element at the bottom using the detail die in the Scene Adventure set. Moving the die around and passing through several times gives us the realist-looking shimmery water. To bring out the details of the water, I went over that section with Pool Party ink and a blending brush. The grass at the shore is cut from Mossy Meadow cardstock, while the small stand of flowers is cut from Granny Apple Green for a pop of contrast. The flowers are cut from pastel ombre glimmer paper and adhered to the floral stems with glue dots and then tucked behind the grass at the shore. The trees are a combination of Pecan Pie and Shaded Spruce cardstock and layered both behind and in front of the grass at the shore. The mountain in the distance is cut from Thoughtful Journey paper and adhered behind the grass and trees in the foreground. Dimensionals help give this scene a lot of depth and layers. The window pane layer is adhered on top using several layers of dimensionals to ensure that the scene looks as though it’s outside the window. We finish things off with the sentiment cut from Flower Garden Foil using the Wanted to Say dies. An assortment of riverside pearls, two tone gems, and In Color pearls add the finishing touches and help the eye pass across the design.

You Make Me Smile

And just like that, we’ve made it to the weekend. Do you have things on your weekend to-do list? This weekend is all about playing catch-up for us. Lots of things to do around the house, and of course, there’s always something to do in the craft room.

This week, we’ve been working with our crafty stash to create some super fun 3D and interactive designs. Today, I’m borrowing a slide-out panel design from fellow demo Rose Coleman. I changed it up a bit by having a larger moving panel and moved the peek-a-boo sentiment to the hidden portion of the card front. Let’s take a look at how it all comes together.

Our card is built on a base of Pretty Peacock cardstock. I selected a sheet of the fish pattern from the Otterly Adorable paper pack to serve as backdrop for the card front and our hidden sentiment. A slit in this piece of patterned paper allows for the movement of the front focal panel and the reveal of our hidden sentiment. I used pieces of the Pretty Peacock cardstock for the movement pieces. The focal panel is a combination of a cute otter scene from another sheet of the Otterly Adorable paper and a mat of Pretty Peacock glimmer paper. A piece of the Pretty Peacock & gold metallic ribbon serves as the pull. The focal panel is affixed to the slide to complete the sliding panel. I broke up the sentiment stamp from the Sweet Blooms set so that each word is on a separate line so that the sentiment hides perfectly behind the front sliding panel for its big reveal. The card front is finished off with riverside pearls, shimmer gems, and heart sequins for some eye-catching twinkle. I used a Mixed Labels sentiment for the inside message and finished with piece of the fish patterned paper to tie everything together.

Take Me to the Beach

We’re cruisin’ into Thursday like we’ve got somewhere to go! And here in North Texas, things are beginning to really heat up and feel like summer. School is out, the mercury’s rising, and pools are open for fun. What about you? Are you feeling the summer vibes yet?

This week, we’re using the crafty stash to create 3D projects. And today’s project is a little something for my office. I needed a seasonal update for my frame scene that I keep on my side table, so I decided to create a little summer escape that features the Notes & Totes bundle.

Our scenes starts with a sheet of the Thoughtful Journey 6×6 paper. I chose a sheet that had a nice sky look to the top of the paper, knowing that I would be covering the bottom portion of the paper with a combination of ocean and sand. I chose a sheet of the Bright & Beautiful paper pack to create the ocean waves. The reverse side of the confetti sheet had the perfect shade of blue with wave-like patterns, and I tore several strips so I could really capture the movement of ocean waves. I adhered two of the wave layers directly to the backdrop while popping up the waves in the foreground to create a sense of depth to the scene. To create the sand in the foreground, I chose a sheet of Crumb Cake and used the Notes & Totes detail stamp to stamp the grain pattern. The strip of sand is tucked behind the waves to give the look of the waves lapping onto the shore.

From here, I begin building the scene. We get started with a small bit of white picket fencing on the right side of the scene to give the illusion that we’ve walked down to the beach. The Notes & Totes dies do all the heavy lifting here as we work to create our scene in the foreground. I used Timid Tiger and Strawberry Slush for the shells and starfish. Our beach bag has a custom pattern created by stamping the small florals in Pretty in Pink onto the white bag. I did a little paper piecing for the lotions, water bottles, and sunglasses. And the towel is created by rolling up a sheet of the striped pattern from the Bright & Beautiful paper pack. A combination of In Color flat pearls, two tone sparkle gems, and shimmer foam stars add the last bit of twinkly details.

Birthday Pinch Box

We’re already halfway through this week. I’m not quite sure how that happened! This week, we’re making 3D designs. And today’s design is a super simple fold-over pinch treat box. There are all sorts of variations of this box out there – mostly varying in size or shape. Regardless of which one you choose to make, the box comes together in a snap! And today’s birthday box uses the Wildflower Birthday paper pack and ephemera sheet.

The box itself is made from a full sheet of Pool Party cardstock. After scoring along both the long and short edges and making some strategic cuts, you fold in the flaps to create the bottom of the bag and the top flap. A quick little pinch of the sides at the top create the closure for the fold-over flap. I use small Velcro dots to act as my bag closure because I find it the simplest and most effective method, but I know some folks have used magnets and some have chosen to have a ribbon closure. But for me, I’ll stick with the easy button! *wink-wink*

I used two coordinating sheets of the Wildflower Birthday paper to decorate the bag. I intend to use this as a little birthday giftie, so I chose the sheet with cakes on it as the focal section (both front & back of the box) and then used the decorative scalloped sheet for the bag flap portion. I tied a bow using the gold striped sheer ribbon and decided I needed a little more oom-pah-pah for the bag flap, so I pulled a few gold twigs and a small leaf from the Wildflower Birthday ephemera sheet. Together, these elements provide the perfect eye-catching addition to the bag flap.

These gift boxes come together so quickly that it would be easy to trim and score a whole stack of cardstock in no time flat! If you’d like to give this cute gift box a try, you can download the tutorial here.

This week’s design theme is 3D projects, and today we’re whipping up a super simple (but simply adorable) treat box using some up-and-coming Online Exclusives. The new Spooky Sweet paper pack and coordinating precut shapes are just adorable. Add a few twinkly stars and some iridescent ribbon and you have the perfect treat box for your trick-or-treaters!

Our treat box is made from Basic Black cardstock. I used two different patterns from the Spooky Sweet paper pack on the box and added a little twinkle with the glimmer paper for an extra pop on the lid. I chose some precut shapes that complimented the patterned paper and helped tell the trick-or-treating story on the lid. A few sparkly stars scattered across the lid finish things off. I found that adding a few finger notches on the sides of the lid, as well as the little tab on the front of the box really helped make the box much easier to open.

Happy Monday, everyone! We’re on the downward slope for the month of June and summer is just cranking up. Thus far, we haven’t had any unusually hot days here in North Texas just yet, but the temps are definitely starting to creep up and the rain is becoming less frequent.

This week, we’re beginning a new design series — 3D projects. And today we get started with a fun fold card called a Z-fold pop-up card. This is a card design that I’ve had hanging out in my “want to make it” pile for quite a while and I thought there was no time like the present to give it a whirl! We’re combining the Lovely Garden patterned papers with the Beautiful Butterflies dies to create this fun garden scene.

As you might expect, this garden scene is full of bright, vibrant color. And we get started with a base of Melon Mambo cardstock. This is a standard A2 card base that is scored in the center as you would with any standard A2 card. To create the Z-fold pop-up base though, we add a slit and a few extra score lines to give us the dynamic portion of our design.

I chose two coordinating floral patterns from the Lovely Garden paper pack. I really like the contrast between the white and dark backgrounds. Each panel is a quarter sheet that is cut to cover each side of the card panel, including the small panels of the dynamic folding portion in the center.

Our butterflies are the real stars of the show here and the perfect opportunity to add not only beautiful pops of color, but the lovely pops of sparkle to really draw the eye in. I pulled out my collection of glimmer papers, including the pastel ombré and In Color packs, along with the (now retired) three color pack. I cut the larger butterfly background pieces in both sizes from the glimmer papers and then all of the detail pieces are cut from black cardstock. Each of the small butterflies is two-sided with a small strip of acetate window sheet in between, which is what allows them to look as tho they’re fluttering in the flower garden.

We’re keeping the sentiment panel very simple by cutting it from white cardstock using the smallest Something Fancy scalloped tag die and then cutting it to fit at the top of the front panel. The sentiment from Pattern of Friendship is stamped on the tag in Melon Mambo. And we finish things off with some iridescent faceted gems.
