Trucking In Christmas Cheer

We’re already halfway through this week and halfway through our All About Christmas week. I really love making holiday cards, so I’m having a great time working with all of the wonderful holiday products that Stampin’ Up! currently has to offer.

Today, we’re combining a little new with some old as take a drive to the tree farm in the woods to pick our Christmas tree. Do you like having a real tree or do you prefer artificial Christmas trees? I love real trees but unfortunately have allergies that prevent me from having real trees inside. Today’s card pairs the famous Trucking Along bundle with the Peaceful Evergreen set. Let’s take a closer look.

We get started with a base of Poppy Parade cardstock. I loved the contrast that this color provides with the Real Red in the other card elements. Our focal panel base consists of a piece of white cardstock that has been embossed using the Snowflake Sky embossing folder and the candy cane striped sheet of patterned paper from the Take a Box paper pack. To add a little definition to the snowy sky and create a definitive sky in our panel, I used my sponge dauber to add a little Misty Moonlight to the top of the embossed panel. Our grove of evergreens is created using the Peaceful Evergreens stamps and dies. I stamped two different sizes of evergreens on Mossy Meadow and then diecut them using the coordinating dies. They’re adhered to our focal panel using dimensionals. Our truck is stamped in black on Real Red cardstock using the Trucking Along stamp set and then punched with the coordinating punch. The tree in the truck bed is stamped tone-on-tone on Garden Green cardstock and then cut out with paper snips. The truck is adhered on extra dimensionals in front of our evergreens. Our sentiment from Filled With Cheer is stamped in Real Red on white cardstock and then diecut using the Peaceful Season banner die. I cut a second banner from Real Red to mat the sentiment panel and help it stand out. It’s adhered to the top of our focal panel, just like that welcome banner at the tree farm. A few adhesive peppermints on either side of the sentiment finish things of nicely.

The next time I make this card, I think I will stamp the truck on white cardstock instead. While I like the richness of the red we get by stamping the truck tone-on-tone, I like the background of our punched image blending in more to our snowy background. Try it out and see what you think!

As we enjoy our last week of summer break here in our area of North Texas, I felt it was appropriate to have this week’s theme revolve around back to school designs. The fun and challenging thing about this particular theme is that I don’t actually have a ready supply of images or sentiments to easily work out designs. So this week is all about putting on the creativity hat.

Today, we’re heading to the garage to modify the Trucking Along truck into a school bus. Yep, that’s right. We’re splicing and dicing to lengthen our truck. So let’s talk about how this design comes together.

We get started with a base of Lost Lagoon cardstock. The background panel of our full focal panel is a quarter sheet of Pool Party cardstock. Our mountainous terrain in the background is a piece of Pretty Peacock that has been diecut using the long cloud die from the Bright Skies die set and cutting on an angle to give the look of a hill. Our trees are also diecut from Pretty Peacock with the Frosted Forest evergreen dies.

To make our school bus, we start with a stamped image of the truck from Trucking Along on Crushed Curry cardstock, which is then punched with the coordinating truck punch. I separated the cab from the bed with paper snips and then joined them back together with a small strip of Crushed Curry and filled in the outline with a black pen. Using the cab as a guide for the shape of the back of the bus, I traced and then cut a separate piece of Crushed Curry for the back of the bus. The lights and stop sign are all red iridescent discs. The bus is then adhered over our mountain with dimensionals to help it stand apart.

Our sentiment is another one that I set up in Word and printed on white cardstock with my printer. I used a larger cloud die from the Bright Skies dies to cut it out, along with a few smaller clouds to add behind. A spot of sunshine beams through in Crushed Curry compliments of the sun dies in the Bright Skies set. I finished things off with a hint of shine in the white sequins from the sequins trio.

Just Beachy

Today, we’re wrapping up our week of touring some of the Stampin’ Up! sets that lend themselves to making great Father’s Day cards. And it seemed only fitting that we finished off with the “truck that broke the internet.” If you’ve followed along here for a little while, you’ve heard me mention this before. For those who are new, when the Trucking Along bundle was first released by Stampin’ Up!, it was so popular that it sold out in hours on release day and quickly sold out each of the next several times it came back in stock.

So today’s card features the Trucking Along bundle and a super cute design layout that I’ve borrowed from fellow demo over at Stamp It Up With Jaimie. For the beach lovers or the fellas who just love some summertime fun, this card design screams of summer relaxation.

We get started with a card base of Pool Party cardstock. A piece of Lemon Lolly is diecut using one of the largest circle dies in the Spotlight on Nature die set. I thought the radiating edges represented a big sun really well. Our sand is represented by a strip of the white woodgrain pattern paper from the Country Woods paper pack. I chose to make a one-layer focal image using the Trucking Along stamps and filled our truck with the beachy accoutrements. The truck is filled in with the coordinating filler stamps, while the items in the truck bed are colored with Stampin’ Blends. Everything is fussy cut and then adhered to the background panel with dimensionals. The sentiment from Trusty Tools is stamped on white cardstock and then cut with a combination of paper trimmer and snips and then adhered in the center over the “sand.” Everything is finished off with the swirl dots and shiny sequins embellishments.

This card comes together in no time flat and could easily be adapted for other occasions, like birthday, graduation, etc. And it’s perfect for any recipient, whether guy or gal. I love having designs like this in my inspiration folder for those times when I need a card I can put together quickly but delivers on the cute and fun!

I have been having so much fun this week exploring all of the fun ways that the Sending Love bundle can turn out cute cards. Simply changing a product pairing can give a totally different look and feel to this versatile stamp and die bundle. 

Today, we’re pairing Sending Love with Trucking Along and Lighter Than Air for this card. The Trucking along bundle, like Sending Love, is perfect for building scenes. I love the cheerful paper in the Lighter Than Air designer series paper pack and felt it would be perfect for making a light and bright scene of a sunny day delivery.

This card is built on a base of Pool Party cardstock. The center focal panel is matted with Coastal Cabana to draw the eye and allow the variety of colors to pop. I stamped the truck in Lost Lagoon and Pool Party and loaded the back with envelopes stamped and diecut with the Sending Love bundle. I pulled a variety of colors for the envelopes for a bit of interest and to punch up the fun. To give a sense of movement, I let the Lost Lagoon envelope spill from the back of the truck. The truck is able to stand out in this busy scene by placing it on doubled dimensionals. I wanted to keep the front sentiment simple and understated, so I stamped it on a diecut vellum banner and used rainbow dots to add punches of coordinating color to tie everything together.

Trucking In a Heartfelt Hello

Just because we’re looking to create a more masculine design doesn’t mean we have to leave fun at the door! I don’t often make shaker cards and so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to stretch the ol’ creative wings. With the idea of making it fun, I decided a truck scene would be just the ticket.

This card is built on a base of Night of Navy to help the scene stand out in a dramatic way. I used two identical sheets of designer series paper from the One Horse Open Sleigh pack — one serves as the forefront, while the other gives the backdrop for the truck in the shaker window. I used a Deckled Rectangle die to cut the window out of the front panel for the truck, making sure that the window allowed just enough room for the truck to be visible and allow space for the shaker elements. A piece of acetate is adhered to the back of the window on the front panel and then the back edges of the window are lined with foam adhesive strips to create a box in which the shaker elements will be poured and then closed in with the back panel. The truck is punched from Lost Lagoon and black using the Trucking Along punch and adhered to the back panel with dimensionals. The sentiment from Heartfelt Hellos is stamped in Night of Navy on vellum and then punched with the coordinating hexagon punch. The vellum panel allows the scene to show through.

White Christmas

I can’t help but hum “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas . . . .” when I start thinking about Christmas. What about you? I wanted to create a very clean and simple card and the song White Christmas actually inspired this design.

Never underestimate the power of monochromatic designs. 100% of this card uses Basic White cardstock. I added twinkle to the Christmas tree with sequin ornaments and Wink of Stella all along the edges of the tree diecut. The pop of gold from the Ephemera elements add festive style and interest, as well as drawing the eye down the card to the sentiment.

Today’s design was super fun to create. A fellow demonstrator (if I can remember who, I will update with a link) posted a design with a truck and trailer, which I thought was brilliant! Because this is a personal design going to a friend, I dug into my stash of some of my favorite retired product, as well as using some fun current products, to make this card pop with lots of flashy flare!

I decided to make this a diagonal split fold to incorporate some of my favorite Bright & Beautiful designer paper patterns and to really make the center image panel stand out. I stamped the background scene on a piece of white cardstock before I diecut using the Nested Essentials die. I then stamped and punched the tuck separately to add depth to the scene and allow the truck and numbers to stand out. To make the trailer, I first stamped the entire truck and then punched out just the back portion. The numbers were cut using a retired set of dies called Number of Years and I gave them an extra layer of dimensionals to allow them to stand up taller than anything else on the image panel. This design is even cuter in person and I’m really hoping that the recipient loves it!

Now it’s my turn to play with the new Trucking Along stamp set. You just might get tired of seeing this little truck, but I sure hope not because I have LOADS of ideas. (Get it?)

I actually built this little scene with the intention of using a diecut to snip just a portion of it, but as I was placing the diecut, my son walked by and said, “you’re not going to cut that up, are you?” I told you I might just have to hire him to help out in the studio! And so I kept the whole scene, which has way better balance anyway.

This is a very simple design that came together in less than 30 minutes from start to finish. The design sits atop a white card base. The image panel is on a single layer of dimensionals atop a piece of Hello Irresistible designer paper. I made a mask of the truck using the punch and plain paper in order to stamp the trees and grass around the truck without covering it in any way. The load of flowers in the back of the truck has been fussy cut and is popped up. And that’s only because I forgot about them and stamped a tree in that space, but it turned out to be a happy little accident.

Out for a Test Drive

It was super fun to take the new Trucking Along bundle by Stampin’ Up! out for a spin. I think my son was as excited as I was about this new set, and HE actually got to christen the stamps by making the very first card design with them. And I’m thinking that I might have to hire him to help out from time to time because he came up with this entire card by himself!

Is this not the cutest card you’ve ever seen? He played around with his design on a piece of scratch paper. He got about halfway done and said, “I’m ready for the real thing now” and proceeded to make this little masterpiece. I love how the trucks look like they’re stopped on the shoulder of a roadway and how he was so careful to stamp all of the little details, like the grass and fence and trees. He had fun digging through ALL of the ink choices to find just the right colors …. and there are a LOT of choices because I have all of the retired colors.

What do you think of his test drive of the new Trucking Along stamp set? I’d say he passed for sure!

On the way

New Product = New Designs

A new box of SU! product has arrived and I’m super excited to get started on some new designs. Guess what came in the box? The Trucking Along bundle! This new set, which includes stamps and punch, has been SO popular that it’s been called the “truck that broke the internet!” Many moons ago there was a similar set, which I still have by the way, that I just adored for its versatility and overall adorable images. So I can’t wait to get started on designs with this new bundle!

What else came in the box, you may be wondering? Well, there happen to be some goodies that will be perfect for some Christmas designs. I know what you’re thinking….you too???!!!! But the reason paper crafters get started on Christmas designs in July is because we typically design cards that are a bit more time consuming to create from start to finish. And we’re usually pretty excited about how they turn out and want to share these beauties with you!

So, all of that is to say, brace yourselves for some new stuff that includes Christmas!
