Because I Appreciate You

Hello, crafty friends! I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas. We enjoyed time together and time with family. My voice managed to hold together well enough to do an okay job for Christmas Eve services and we’ve enjoyed just loafing around since.

While I have the time off, I’ve also been enjoying time in the craft room. I’ve had several boxes of new goodies arrive. So I’ve taken the time to put away the Christmas mess and get somewhat reorganized. I’m really looking forward to playing with all the new crafty goodness that has arrived.

For the remainder of this week, I thought it would be appropriate to tiptoe back through the garden florals since it’s in the 80s here in North Texas. And today we’re pairing up the ever-lovely Perennial Lavender patterned paper with the Words of Beauty stamp and die bundle.

We get started with a base of Crumb Cake cardstock. I love how this light neutral really pulls forward the lighter colors in our patterned papers. I chose two complimentary sheets from the Perennial Lavender paper pack. The larger fronds of lavender serve as the backdrop for our focal panel, which is a combination of summer wildflowers. To help the busier, smaller pattern stand out against the background panel, I decided to use some retired Highland Heather glimmer paper. The sentiment is a combination of dies and stamps from the Words of Beauty set. just because is cut from Petunia Pop glimmer paper and adhered directly to the focal panel with a glue pen. The remainder of the sentiment is stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink on white cardstock and cut with the larger sentiment panel from the Words of Beauty die set and then adhered between the two glittery words. We finish off the focal panel with Petunia Pop iridescent ribbon tied in a bow and a combination of shimmery gems.

Tomorrow we’re going to pair up Words of Beauty with some more florals from the crafty stash. I hope you’ll pop in and check it out.

So Lucky to Know You

Here we are — already back to Monday and working to finish out the month of July. Our kiddos have just 2 weeks of summer left and then it’s back to school time. So we’ll be packing in as much last-minute fun as we can. What about you? Are kids in your area headed back to school? What do you do to finish off the summer?

This week, we’re beginning a new series of designs that I’m calling In the Garden. We’ll be pulling out all of our papers and stamps that afford us the opportunity to feel like we’re strolling through the garden. And today, we’re getting started with some of my all-time favorite patterned paper called Perennial Lavender by Stampin’ Up! For me personally, it’s not often that there is an entire pack of paper — every single sheet — that is my favorite, but Perennial Lavender is certainly one of them. So we’re pairing up this gorgeous paper with a sketch from my sketch book. Let’s get a closer look.

We get started on today’s card with a base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. Our background panel is the sheet of lavender stems from the Perennial Lavender designer series paper pack. Our focal section is very simple but certainly a show-stopper. We started with a sheet of the lavender field pattern from the Perennial Lavender pack and diecut it using one of the larger Spotlight on Nature dies. We stamp our sentiment from the Country Flowers stamp set in Blackberry Bliss ink on white cardstock and then diecut it using the Spotlight on Nature dies. Both circular panels are adhered to our card base with dimensionals. We use two paper butterflies and a simple twist of iridescent striped trim to complete our focal section. Purple shimmer gems are scattered across the card front to help move the eye across the card design.

One of these things I love about this particular design is that it comes together so quickly and works perfectly with any patterned paper set you have on hand. Tomorrow we’ll be walking through the cut flowers for a zinnia bouquet. I hope you’ll pop in!

You Mean the World

One of my go-to design tools is a good sketch. If I run across a great card layout, whether it’s an actual card or just a sketch, it goes in my inspiration folder for reference later. Sketches are a great resource when you get in a creative rut, have zero ideas, or just want a quick way to turn out a lot of cards.

This week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches really resonated with me creatively and I quickly had a bunch of ideas for how I would use this sketch. Yesterday, I showed how I tweaked this sketch to work for the elements I wanted to use on the card I was making. Today, I’m sticking closer to the original sketch for this card.

We get started with a base of Lost Lagoon cardstock. I used the Perennial Lavender designer paper for this design. The background panel from Perennial Lavender is diecut using the largest die in the Deckled Rectangles die set. For the square element of the sketch, I chose a mat of Pretty Peacock glimmer paper and a decorative sheet of the Perennial Lavender and diecut each with the nesting dies from Thoughtful Expressions. The circle element is diecut from Crumb Cake with Everyday Essentials and then dry embossed with Elegant Eucalyptus embossing folder. I felt this really helped make all of the patterns and color palette more cohesive. The sentiment from Botanical Layers is stamped on Lost Lagoon that has been diecut with the Everyday Essentials die. The ribbon and twine and foiled gems help draw the eye to the focal point in the center of the card and unite the color palette.
