Terrific Tuesdays

Enjoy Your Day

Today’s card features the designer series paper that coordinates with the Bright Skies stamps and dies. The Sunny Days paper pack allows you to create so many different styles of cards. This pack could be yours for FREE with a qualifying order between now and the end of February during Sale-a-Bration.

I really love this DSP Gate Fold fun fold by Jackie Bolhuis over at Klompen Stampers. It’s such a great way to showcase both sides of a lovely sheet of designer series paper. I felt like so many of the designs I’ve made with Bright Skies have been more doom and gloom than bright and cheery, and this is the most perfect card to send a cheerful vibe!

This card is built on a quarter-sheet of Real Red cardstock. The third-sheet of designer series paper is scored and folded to create an overlapping barn or gate fold. To punch up the hints of red, the sentiment panel is matted on Real Red cardstock. The sentiment panel is white cardstock diecut using the Everyday Essentials dies. Our cute little rabbit is from the Playing in the Rain bundle and is colored using Stampin’ Blends. Bunny is jumping for joy over some festive grass that is diecut from a sheet of Sunny Days DSP using the Sending Love dies. I added a few adhesive flowers to the grass for a punch of joyful color. A twist of red ribbon from the ribbon combo pack helps draw the eye to the sentiment panel. I let the cheerful Sunny Days paper stand on its own on the inside of the card and simply added white cardstock for the message panel.

Love From Me to You

Do you ever see a stamp set and have your idea wheels immediately start turning? That’s precisely what happened to me as soon as I saw the Sending Love bundle in the January mini catalog. One of the things that I look for in a set is versatility. And while this bundle certainly lends itself easily to Valentine cards, there are a whole host of other occasions for which you can put this bundle to work. And I can’t wait for you to see all of the cute designs I’ve been able to create with this bundle!

Today’s card design revisits a favorite fun fold that I recently learned from fellow team member Patti Dolan. The Center Step fun fold is just so versatile that I find myself circling back to it often right now. I mean, look at how perfectly it shows off the Sending Love mailbox die!

So this card is built on a base of Real Red cardstock. I pulled out my Sale-a-Bration Most Adored designer series paper pack for the perfect combination of patterns for the center and side panels. I love that you have the choice between foiled and patterned designs and, while the pack also lends itself easily to Valentines, the patterns can be used for so many different occasions. I built the mailbox scene using the Sending Love dies and cardstock. These dies make it so easy to build a detailed scene in no time flat. I decided on a more traditional look for the mailbox so that the eye would be drawn to the mail bursting from the mailbox. And I especially love the one taking flight with the hearts gushing out. I used the flower die from the Bright Skies die set to make the vellum wings. Doesn’t that envelope just remind you of that being-in-love feeling?

Butterfly Thoughts

We’re wrapping up our week of Painted Lavender designs with this stunning center step fun fold card. If you’ve been following me for a little while, you may remember that I learned this fun fold from fellow Luv 2 Stamp team member Patti Dolan.

This time, I tried a little something different with the assembly and decided to cut one solid portion for the center and narrow bottom panel, which gives you a t-shaped panel. While getting the measurements down and everything cut correctly was a little tricky, I do like the look of having that continuous panel. And speaking of tricky, can anyone spot my cutting mistake? 😉

The base of this card is a sheet of Pretty Peacock cardstock. The designer series paper is all from the Perennial Lavender pack. I chose two different patterns for both the front and inside sections of the card. The sentiment is from the Wonderful Thoughts stamp set and stamped on vellum diecut using the Autumn Leaves die. The sentiment is matted by a Blackberry Bliss circle panel diecut using the Everyday Essentials dies. The sprig of lavender on the small step up panel is cut from Lost Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss cardstock using the Painted Lavender dies. A large paper butterfly serves as the focal image on the center panel and really draws the eye down to the sentiment.

Terrific Tuesdays

Happy Day

This week we’ve been looking at a variety of ways to use the Painted Lavender stamps and dies to make wonderful projects. Today, we’re revisiting the foldout gift card holder fun fold with this bundle. Interested in trying it for yourself? Head on over to my Tutorials page to grab the PDF tutorial or click here.

This design is built on a quarter-panel of Pretty Peacock cardstock. One sheet of the Perennial Lavender designer paper provides the background mat and gift card pocket. A sheet of Lost Lagoon cardstock provides the foldout section. The front focal panel consists of a field of lavender stamped from the Painted Lavender stamp set onto Crumb Cake cardstock that has been diecut using the Thoughtful Expressions dies. The focal panel is matted in Pool Party that has also been diecut using the Thoughtful Expressions set. A banner of Pretty Peacock soft shimmer paper helps draw the eye to the focal panel and provide an extra pop of saturated color.

Don’t forget to dress up the inside of the foldout. This is super easy to accomplish with a gift card pocket from the same sheet of DSP and a decorative notch in the pocket provided by the Heartfelt Hexagon punch. The message panel, though plain, is punched up by using the Perennial Postage diecuts to give it some pizzazz.

Wishing Peace

Are you loving all of the design inspiration for using the new Painted Lavender bundle? I really love the entire suite of products that coordinates with this stamp and die bundle. And today we’re learning a new fun fold to show them all off.

This gorgeous fun fold is another one from Jackie Bolhuis over at Klompen Stampers. This fold combines a z-fold with a window card. And it looks far more complicated than it actually is, which I think is the beauty of it. One way to increase the versatility of this fun fold is to use different shapes to make the window panel. For instance, Jackie’s example uses a circle die but here I use the Thoughtful Expressions set. When you think about it, the possibilities are endless! You can download the full PDF tutorial over on my Tutorials page or click this link.

This card begins with a standard card base of Highland Heather. The inside z-fold panel is Gorgeous Grape cardstock. I chose two patterns of the Perennial Lavender designer series paper with the larger pattern on the card front and a smaller pattern for the two inside panels. The focal image is diecut using the Thoughtful Expressions dies. I adhered the front DSP panel before I diecut through and through. I simply flipped the inside piece over to use the solid Highland Heather side for the peek-through focal panel. On the smaller white vellum focal panel, I used the Painted Lavender stamps to create the small floral scene. The sentiment is from the Hills of Tuscany set and is stamped directly on top of the small panel. I adhered the butterfly directly to the DSP in a way that it looks like the butterfly is coming in to light on the tall sprig of lavender. A strip of iridescent ribbon on the bottom helps break up the pattern and draw the eye to center panel.

Simply Marvelous

This week is all about the Painted Lavender bundle, which includes a set of lavender stamp images and coordinating dies. This bundle pairs beautifully with a whole host of products. And I hope to show you a number of ways that you can use this bundle as we explore various projects this week. Today we’re using a fun fold to combine the Perennial Lavender designer series paper with the Painted Lavender dies.

This cut and twist fun fold design, that I learned from fellow Stampin’ Up demonstrator Jackie Bolhuis over at Klompen Stampers, is super easy to execute and always a great way to showcase any number of terrific products — from designer paper to stamp bundles. You can find the PDF tutorial for the cut and twist fun fold over on my Tutorials page or by clicking this link.

Here, we start with a base of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. I chose three separate patterns of the Perennial Lavender designer paper for this card, working my way from largest to smallest pattern as you move left to right. A strip of Lost Lagoon crinkle ribbon serves to break up the busy lavender patterns on the left. The sentiment from the Perennial Postage stamp set is stamped on a Very Vanilla panel and matted with a vellum panel to soften the contrast between the patterned paper and sentiment panel. Both are diecut using the Thoughtful Expressions dies. The lavender stems layered behind the sentiment panel add some visual interest and are cut from Bubble Bath, Berry Burst, and Lost Lagoon cardstock.

Check out this week’s Terrific Tuesdays video for even more inspiration using the Painted Lavender stamps and dies.

Amazing Things

I have really enjoyed working with the Painted Lavender bundle in preparation for this week’s Terrific Tuesdays video. And for today’s bonus post, we use a masking technique to create this lovely fun fold.

The Painted Lavender bundle is part of a larger suite of products called Perennial Lavender, which includes the Perennial Postage bundle we worked with last week, along with the Perennial Lavender designer series paper, paper butterflies, and purple fine sparkle gems which are all a part of today’s featured card.

I wanted to try using the paper butterflies ask masks and decided that a peek-through z-fold would be the perfect way to showcase a masked section. We begin with a card base of Lost Lagoon. I chose the sheet of Perennial Lavender designer paper that includes both flowers and butterflies in a tight-knit pattern. White cardstock serves as the base for the inside of the card and the peek-through section of the card. I used a larger and smaller paper butterfly as masks and inked over them with sponge daubers and Blackberry Bliss ink directly on the inside card base on the peek-through section. To keep a nice, even border on the left of the butterflies, I used a strip of washi tape to keep the sponged section just where I wanted it. Each of the butterflies are then flipped over to the uninked side and adhered to the front of the card. The sentiment from the Wonderful Thoughts stamp set is stamped on white cardstock diecut with the Nested Essentials dies. Two small butterflies from the Painted Lavender stamp set help draw the eye to the sentiment. Purple sparkle gems are scattered over the card front for pops of color and sparkle and to help the eye travel across the card design.

Thank You Curtain Fold

Today we’re revisiting a relatively new-to-me fun fold. One of our Luv to 2 Stamp team members shared this Curtain Fold with the group during the holidays, and I wanted to give it another try. The beauty of this fun fold is that it shows off both sides of a sheet of designer series paper, and for today’s card, I chose a sheet with a foil side for a little extra pizzazz.

A sheet of Pretty Peacock cardstock serves as the base for this card. The backdrop for the beautiful pleated fold is a sheet of the Tartan Foil paper, which is still available in my online store as an Online Exclusive. I love the pairing of the Lost Lagoon Tartan Foil with the Pretty Peacock because the tartan pattern really shows through with this color palette. The pleated fold is made with a sheet of the Nature’s Sweetness designer series paper and was actually the other portion of the sheet that I used for one of the Terrific Tuesday designs. The sentiment from Perennial Postage is stamped in Pretty Peacock and diecut with the coordinating Perennial Postage die. The sentiment panel is matted with a Pretty Peacock banner that is diecut using the Nested Essentials die with the extension method. A twist of gold trim and a scattering of Pretty Peacock and gold sequins add a touch of sparkle to draw the eye to the center fold and sentiment.

Heartfelt Love You

This week’s project focus is masculine cards using the Heartfelt Hexagon bundle, including the fabulous coordinating Sale-a-Bration set called Heartfelt Hellos which will be available with qualifying orders beginning tomorrow. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I really struggle to make cute designs for the guys. So we’ll be exploring how we can look at our stash in new ways to make gorgeous projects with a more masculine feel.

For me, the hardest part of making more masculine feeling cards is finding a good color palette amongst my patterned paper stash. I absolutely fell in love with the Garden Walk designer series paper from the Holiday Mini Catalog. I was initially drawn to the beautiful mix of floral patterns in this paper pack, but as I was looking through my stash of DSP to design this card, I found so many lovely masculine options on the reverse sides of the florals in the Garden Walk pack. So my first tip for designing masculine cards is to never count out a pack of DSP simply because one side leans more to a more feminine feel — turn those pages over and look at the other side because you are bound to find some surprises!

So this fun fold design is all about showcasing beautiful patterned paper. We begin with a base of Lost Lagoon cut to standard size. It’s scored as usual but with an added 1-inch fold-back panel on the card front to reveal a section of the inside card base. I chose two separate patterns of Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock from the Garden Walk DSP pack and decided the striped pattern worked perfectly for the fold-back and peek-through sections of the design. The speckled pattern is adhered to both sides of the small panel on both the card front and inside panel.

The sentiment from Heartfelt Hellos is stamped in Pretty Peacock on white cardstock punched with the Heartfelt Hexagon punch. For some pop, the sentiment panel is mounted with dimensionals atop a banner diecut from Lost Lagoon soft shimmer paper using the Nested Essentials banner dies. I added a little silver trim underneath the sentiment panel and along the peek-through edge for some sparkle because even our guys deserve a little sparkle! A few Pretty Peacock sequins bring a little extra emphasis to the sentiment.

Don’t you just love how this turned out?! A lovely fun fold and some out-of-the-box thinking about patterned papers helped bring this lovely masculine design to life.

Grateful Fun Fold

This week, we’ve been exploring all of the ways we can use our designer series papers to make holiday thank you cards. Today’s card design is introducing a new fun fold. I learned how to make the Center Step Fun Fold this week thanks to fellow Luv to Stamp team member Patti Dolan.

This card is built on a base of Night of Navy cardstock. I used two different patterns of the One Horse Open Sleigh designer series paper pack to complete the card front and inside panels. The trees and bear are cut from a sheet of A Walk in the Forest. The Merriest Trees die set coordinates perfectly with the trees and the Beary Cute punch easily punches the bear. The sentiment from the Charming Sentiments set is stamped on a shimmer white panel diecut using the Nested Essentials dies. Some iridescent discs add a little touch of sparkle and draw the eye across the card. You can find the instructions for this fun fold here.

I tried a portrait variation of this fun fold using Jackie Bolhaus’s design, but I definitely need to work on it as things didn’t exactly line up as they should have so it sits a little catterwompass. But it turned out really cute, so I’m going to show it to you anyway. Haha! I combined One Horse Open Sleigh with the Beary Cute Memories and More products.

You can see all of the other fun designs that we made together in this week’s Terrific Tuesdays video by clicking below for the full video.
